Buddha S'Mores / S'Mores De Buda

La versión español está después de la primera foto.

I WAS GOING to tell you the details of my recent frustrations with online technologies — like the fact that some readers are unable to comment on some Google Blogspot blogs, like mine, for no apparent reason — or the fact that Facebook has been blocking me from sharing my blog posts for more than a month because either: 1) my blog has been reported as abusive, or 2) Facebook thinks this is spam, or 3) this post goes against our "Community Standards", or 4) Facebook is experiencing technical difficulties and apologizes for the inconvenience.

But I'm not going to talk about that today. I'm going to be more Zen... and talk about S'mores. We had dinner at our friends' Pedro and Kathleen's the other night. Pedro cooked vegetable soup, which was exceptional. Kathleen followed with S'mores by candlelight. Traditionally, S'mores are created by skewering marshmallows on twigs and roasting them over a campfire. Kathleen, always creative, always non-traditional, and — more importantly — without a campfire, gave us each a chopstick and lit a "Buddha" candle. It worked just as well.

We followed our Buddha S'mores with a game of cards. Pedro won. As you can see by his reaction in the last two photos, Pedro doesn't win very often.

KATHLEEN COULDN'T FIND GRAHAM CRACKERS. WE DID NOT COMPLAIN.
KATHLEEN NO PUDO ENCONTRAR GALLETAS GRAHAM.

SAN GERALDO'S OVER-STUFFED S'MORE.
EL S'MORE DEMASIADO RELLENO DE SAN GERALDO.
MY MORE REFINED S'MORE.
MI MÁS REFINADO S'MORE.

Yes, Pedro. Handsome, intelligent, charming, kind, sexy... and he cooks, too. Sometimes he really pisses me off.

  2. I had issues with Facebook this week too, not sure why. Hey, if a candle works why not? I've never had a smore in my life. Am I missing out?

You are definitely missing out! I hadn’t even heard of them until I met Jerry. I made up for lost time!

  4. Pedro, what an ass! I don't care for s'mores myself, but it seems to be a camping staple. I've been very disappointed in graham crackers lately. They seem to have lost a lot of their graham crackerishness. They're now just another flat cookie.

Pedro’s not an ass... oh yeah. I see. I love S’mores. Haven’t seen graham crackers here.

Kathleen loves making her American traditions and she’s amazing at adapting. These S’mores tasted like s’more.

  7. When I was a kid, I used to roast them on a fork over the eye of an electric stove in the kitchen. Somehow toasting a marshmallow makes it wonderful. Pedro is an exuberant fellow, isn't he? You should let him win more often.

I wonder did electric marshmallows taste any different. Pedro teaches high school. His students love him. I don’t wonder why. And he and Kathleen are both so creativo when it comes to activities for Luke. A joy.

  8. I never liked s'mores, mainly because I find marshmallow rather unappealing. Graham crackers and chocolate bars are quite appealing. Unfortunately, here in New Mexico I cannot find my favorite Nabisco Original (red box) Graham Crackers which are made with molasses. (And most are made in Mexico!) Honey Maid just don't do it for me. Standing on my head doesn't work. I stocked up when we were in California, but those are all gone.

Oh I love it all. No graham c askers yet to be found here. Kathleen’s galletas were perfect anyway. I don’t stand on my head when I win. I’d always be standing on my head. (As if.)

  11. The cookie choice looks fun, not a gram cracker fan and I don't care about chocolate but love marshmallows.
If you eat them outside then they are fine. I would rather just toast the marshmallows and eat them.

    cheers, parsnip and badger

Then you would have loved these s’mores. The cookie was delicious. I gasped when I read the words “I don’t care about chocolate.”

As for the blogger problem, I blame the cats.

It could be the cats, especially Dudo, the hacker. The photos only made you SIT up?

  13. I'm not sure if Facebook has done it to blogspot but they discontinued the automatic posting with WordPress. There was some BS reason given for it but as of August 31 posts have not been showing up as notification on FB.

    1. Willym,
Bizarre about Wordpress. So frustrating. And what makes it worse is the impossibility of getting a direct response EVER from Facebook.

  14. I do hope you get to the bottom of the tech problems. Ahem.

  15. I think with wordpress you can do auto posting if you have a page for your blog rather than on your personal profile. That is what I heard, anyway, I haven't bothered fixing it. :)

Lindt is a worthwhile addition to the smores, I think.. :)

Kathleen tends to use the best chocolate for whatever she makes. What a difference. Still debating WordPress a pain to switch after all this time but I have no confidence that google will continue to support blogspot.
