Incompatible

La versión español está después de la primera foto.

SAN GERALDO AND I are pretty much incompatible when it comes to sleeping together. We've tried over the years. Sometimes it's worked, but not for long. He likes it hot. I like it cold. I sleep with nothing on, rarely even a top sheet. He likes weight and can sometimes sleep under three blankets.

If he wakes up during the night, which he often does, he turns on the lights and reads. If I wake up during the night, which I often do, I can't turn on a light or read or I might be up for the rest of the night.

He snores. I sometimes do, too.

When we were both working, I would grind my teeth  in my sleep. It kept him awake and left me aching in the morning. I also had restless leg syndrome, which would wake San Geraldo with a start during the night (and me, too, sometimes).

I sleep with four pillows and I'm an active sleeper; I move all over the bed. Pillows end up on the floor or under my feet. Even the cats won't get too close to me when I'm asleep.

Unlike us, Dudo and Moose are very compatible sleepers. However, when they're awake they can be brutal. San Geraldo and I are always kind. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)

I do wish we could be more like the cats.

San Geraldo y yo siempre somos amables. (Esa es mi historia y me atengo a ella.)

Ojalá pudiéramos ser más como los gatos.

  1. Oh dear lord, SG is a snoring hot house plant! So is Balder Half! Two comforters, a top sheet and a blanket! Arrgghh! Temperpedic mattress makes it worse! I have my own room now, with a hospital bed, a window I can open at night, a kindle I can read when I wake up for my 3:00 pee and I can shake my feet in peace! I also don't have to listen to the "soothing" sound of his CPAP(I call it CRAP) whistling like a miniature tea kettle. The snoring was worse considering you could hear it all through the house!
As usual, love the kitties! I wonder how they would look on a red blanket. Squirrel!

    1. Deedles,
Jerry used to use so many heavy blankets when we slept together, I felt like I was going to break under the weight. Just like Balder Half! The boys would look great on a red blanket. My mother’s favorite combo for years! Red black and white. Not cats on red blanket!

  2. You have found something that works for you both. Sleeping is essential for us all.
We both like a cooler room when sleeping....PHEW! Ron's CPAP machine took a lot to get used to.....at first I wore ear plugs. Now I hardly notice it at all. Much prefer sleeping together and making minor adjustments.
The cats are pros I see and their priorities in place.

    1. Jim,
We both wish we could sleep together. I never slept well next to another one even for a night, let alone 37 years!

  3. Yes. It's hard to get sleep when your incompatible in the sleeping department. The lad is the first person to be with me. We both like it cool, fresh air, and a pitch black room, both naked. Can't stand being restricted in movement

Even sleeping preferences aside, I could never sleep well with someone else. We both ish we could... with each other!

    1. Parsnip,
Our cat Dobie would sleep with me in California... until I stopped reading and turned off the light. That was his cue to escape before I rolled over on him or kilcked him in my sleep. He joined Jerry who wouldn’t move.. or sleep ... for fear of disturbing him. Same with dudo and Moose. Dudo will, in summer, sleep next to my head, and even that somtimes turns out dangerous.

  5. As long as you too are compatible in other ways.

  6. I am a very restless sleeper, waking frequently for brief intervals and falling right back to sleep. Poor Dennis has insomnia and once awake feels like he stays awake for hours - although I can tell from his snoring that he really does go back to sleep sooner than he thinks. Never-the-less, he doesn't feel rested. I long for sleep like your cats! Practice obviously makes purrfect.

I think I’m more like you than Dennis... except for SOME nights.

  7. D & M show how it's done, the little furry and WISE creatures. These pics are hot contenders for your best ever of them.

Although I've never had a partner, let alone someone with whom I've slept with on a regular basis, I've just never been able to sleep comfortably in same-bed-proximity with anyone for even one night. Like you, I tend to drift around the bed in my sleep, and even kick and hit out - or so I've been told. Never been able to adapt to sharing a bed I marvel at those who can. No, for me a separate bed is for sleeping in at sleep times or for sex together in hours awake - and there ain't any common ground between those two purposes. If I did ever meet my 'prince' I'd be suggesting not just separate beds but separate rooms. If he doesn't like it he can take a hike! (Is it any wonder I've always been single?)

    1. Ray,
Before Jerry, I never slept well with someone else. Ever! Jerry and I can manage separate beds when we travel, but we prefer our own rooms. Unfortunate.

  8. good cat brothers!

spouse and I are as incompatible sleepers as you & SG/deedles & BH. so we each have our own rooms for a comfortable night's sleep.

    1. Anne Marie,
I think it’s very common for xoupl s. My parents slept in the same bed for 39 years. M grandparents for 67!

  9. My husband and I are incompatible sleepers, too. I rarely tell anyone that we sleep in separate rooms because I'd hate for them to think it's from lack of love...it's not, we just Noth need a good night's sleep!

    1. Jennifer,
I know what you mean. The reaction is often insulting. My mother had a friend who slept separately from her husband. Every time my mother mentioned her she would say “I don’t think they have a good relationship. They Have separate bedrooms.” I would say, every time, “Mom, Jerry and I don’t sleep together!” Every single time!

  11. Dear God, you and SG are exactly like Carlos and me; I throw blankets and sheets off, he sleeps in sweats and blanket and blanket and blanket and comforter and blanket. I have three pillows wrapped around me like a nest, he has two, one for his head, and one on his feet I move all over and he sleeps like he's dead.

    1. Carlos probably isn't moving because he's weighed down in blankets! If he starts wearing a dishtowel on his head you're in real trouble!

  12. The only time we slept in separate rooms was when menopause hit me - with a vengeance! Those hot flushes were killer. I didn't just flush, I'd turn into a furnace! Then by the time I'd get comfortable, naked and with the fan on, the flush part would be over and I'd be awake and shivering. Several times a night. Bah! Thank you medical science. I do believe HRT saved my sanity, and possibly my relationship.

As for Dudo and Moose, they still hold a big chunk of my heart.

  13. What is it with the restless leg syndrome? It drives me crazy. Up several times a night to stretch and stretch, and it rarely helps. Aaack!

I lived with RLS for several years. It was awful. Have rarely had a problem since I quit working. Hmmm...
