The only thing I missed in this series of photos from Los Boliches Beach this morning was the final high-five between father and son. What a great team! Oops, there goes another problem, kerplop.

I've Got To Be Me / Tengo Que Ser Yo

Apparently, some people don't think the below photo, from my March 27th blog post, was really me. Apparently, some people think that I photoshopped more than just the beard and tattoo. They actually think I photoshopped my head and the wine bottle — and the beard and tattoo — onto someone else's body.

Al parecer, algunas personas no creen que la foto de abajo, desde mi blog de 27 de marzo, era realmente yo. Al parecer, algunas personas piensan que yo hice más que la barba y el tatuaje en photoshop. Ellos realmente piensan que mi cabeza, la botella de vino, la barba, y el tatuaje estan en el cuerpo de otra persona.

Exuberantly Fruity / Exuberantemente Afrutado

Our friends' son and daughter-in-law are visiting Fuengirola from England. They brought us a very elegant box of chocolates made by Hotel Chocolat. The selection is called "Exuberantly Fruity."

The description on the label: "17 tangs of real fruit balanced with luscious chocolate." The menu displays luscious-looking chocolates and mouth-watering descriptions.

The box arrived just three days ago, but I can't find any chocolates. How could that have happened?!?

To paraphrase Winston Churchill:
"It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an empty box of chocolates."


El hijo y nuera de nuestros amigos estan visitando Fuengirola de Inglatera. Nos dieron una caja de chocolates muy elegante. La empressa es Hotel Chocolats. La colección en la caja se llama "Exuberantly Fruity" (Exuberantemente Afrutado).

La descripción en la etiqueta: "17 sabores de frutas reales equilibrada con el chocolate delicioso." El menú muestra deliciosos chocolates y descripciones.

La caja llegó hace sólo tres días, pero no puedo encontrar chocolates. ¿¡¿Cómo pudo haber ocurrido eso?!?

Parafraseando a Winston Churchill:
"Es una acertijo envuelto en un misterio dentro de una caja vacía de chocolates."

Hoopoe Abubilla Upopa Epops

I walked for two hours Wednesday afternoon. My usual walk is flat and easy, so I want to make things a bit more challenging and hit some different muscles. My walk in the countryside the other day had its share of ups and downs. Wednesday, I walked to Sohail Castle (built in 956 AD) and back. The castle sits atop a steep hill. On my way back down the hill I spotted a very flashy bird I had never seen before. Then another flew into sight (the baby, I think). They were cautious but not skittish, so I was able to get a bunch of pictures.

I couldn't wait to get home and show San Geraldo the pictures. He immediately identified the bird as a Hoopoe (Latin name: Upopa Epops; Abubilla in Spanish). I had such a great walk and was so happy to see these beautiful birds that my cheeks are sore from all the smiling.

And my other cheeks also hurt a bit from all the climbing.

But, as an old friend used to say, "It's a nice hurt!"


Anduve por dos horas el miércoles. Mi caminata típica es plana y fácil, así que quiero hacer caminatas un poco mas difíciles al subir y bajar. Mi paseo por el campo el otro día tuvo su parte de altibajos. El miércoles, caminé hacia el Castillo Sohail (construido en 956) y regresé. El castillo se encuentra en lo alto de una colina empinada. En mi camino de vuelta por la colina vi un pájaro muy notable que nunca había visto antes. Entonces otro voló a la vista (el bebé, creo). Ellos eran cautelosos pero no asustadizo, así que pude conseguir un montón de fotografías.

Quería llegar a casa y mostrar a San Geraldo las fotos. Inmediatamente dijo que el pájaro era una Abubilla (Hoopoe en inglés; en latín: Upopa Epops). Tuve un gran paseo y estaba tan contento de ver estas hermosas aves que mis mejillas son dolor de todos los sonriendo.

Y mis otras mejillas (las nalgas) también dolían un poco de toda la escalada.

Pero, como diría un viejo amigo, "¡Es un buen dolor!"

Smell Something / Huele Algo

One of San Geraldo's often-used expressions was "Stop and smell the coffee."

"Jerry, It's 'wake up and smell the coffee'; it's 'stop and smell the roses,'" I would repeatedly explain.

San Geraldo still hasn't learned.

Moose and Dudo don't want to wake up — or stop — and smell anything.


Una de las expresiones favoritas (Americanas) de San Geraldo fue "Parar y huele el café".

"Jerry, es 'Despierta y huele el café!' y "¡Parar y huele las rosas!", yo le diría.

Nota: Pienso que la primera frase sería: "Bajar de las nubes", también un frase hecho en Americano. Y pienso que la segunda frase es similar a "Tómate tu tiempo y sueña."

Jerry todavía no entiende la diferencia.

It's not all blue skies and sunshine around here. Nor is it all about the Mediterranean Sea. Some days, it's a walk into the countryside under cloudy skies. Either way, it's paradise.

Por aquí el cielo no siempre es azul, ni el sol no siempre brilla. Tampoco se trata del Mar Mediterráneo. Algunos días, es un paseo por el campo bajo un cielo nublado. De cualquier manera, es el paraíso.

Orchids With Teeth / Orquídeas Con Dientes

San Geraldo has completed three of four teeth-cleaning appointments. Like so many people, he hates going to the dentist. Unfortunately, it pains him so much that he has to spread a cleaning over four visits instead of getting it over with in one or two.

My teeth are now clean and sparkly. Although I was apprehensive about my visit to the dentist (I have no idea why), everything went perfectly and easily. And I'm going to get braces!!! My bottom teeth have always needed straightening, but that requires my top teeth to be done as well to ensure everything aligns. I can now get Invisalign braces (clear polyurethane) and can finally stop complaining about my teeth. I'm so excited.

When I was told the cost, I hesitated and said I'd need to talk it over with San Geraldo. In my 45-minute walk home from the orthodontist, I talked myself into and out of it a few times.

I thought, 'Well, if I do this, I can't complain about San Geraldo blowing money at the casino.'

Then I thought, 'But if I do this, there won't be any money left for San Geraldo to blow at the casino.'

And then I thought, 'Of course there will!'

When I got home, San Gerald immediately insisted it was worth it if it would make me happy. I knew he would say that without hesitation.

He continued, "Besides, then you can't lecture me about going to the casino!"

To distract from the dental stress, below are the rest of my orchid photos from the Orchidarium in Estepona.

San Geraldo ha completado tres de cuatro citas de limpieza de dientes. Como tanta gente, odia ir al dentista. Le duele tanto que tiene que repartir una limpieza de cuatro visitas en lugar de terminar con una o dos.

Mis dientes están ahora limpios y brillantes. Aunque estaba preocupado por mi visita al dentista (no tengo ni idea de por qué), todo fue perfectamente y fácilmente. ¡Voy a conseguir brackets! Mis dientes inferiores siempre han necesitado enderezarse, pero eso requiere que mis dientes superiores se hagan también para asegurar que todo se alinee. Ahora puedo obtener brackets Invisalign y finalmente puedo dejar de quejarse de mis dientes.

Cuando me dijeron cuánto costaría, dije que tendría que hablar con San Geraldo. En mi camino de 45 minutos, hablé conmigo mismo.

Pensé: "Si hago esto, no puedo quejarme de que San Geraldo haya perdido dinero en el casino."

Entonces pensé: 'Pero si hago esto, no habrá dinero para que San Geraldo pierda en el casino.'

Y entonces pensé: "¡Claro que sí!"

Cuando llegué a casa, San Geraldo inmediatamente insistió en que valía la pena si me hacía feliz. Sabía que él diría eso sin vacilar.

Él continuó: "¡Además, entonces no te puedes quejar si voy al casino!"

When I was around 11, my father was backing up a bit before pulling out of a parking space on Brighton Beach Avenue in Brooklyn. My father, who was a very competent driver, slammed hard into a fire hydrant.

I looked up in shock and asked, "What happened?"

My Mother The Dowager Duchess responded with mild annoyance, "Your father was distracted by a pair of double-Ds!"

I didn't know what that meant until I turned to see a woman with very large breasts displayed to perfection in a skin-tight sweater. I figured it out. Although I couldn't understand why it would be a distraction.

Note: None of the below lovely flowers' cups, seen last week at the Orchidarium of Estepona, are double-Ds, but they're much more worthy of a second look.

Cuando yo tenía 11 años, mi padre apoyó el coche antes de salir de una plaza de aparcamiento en Brighton Beach Avenue en Brooklyn. Él, que era un conductor muy competente, se estrelló fuertemente en una boca de incendios. 

Yo pregunté, "¿Qué pasó?" 

Mi Madre La Duquesa Viuda respondió, "¡Tu padre se distrajo con un par de doble-D!" 

No sabía lo que eso significaba hasta que me volví y vi a una mujer con pechos muy grandes exhibida a la perfección en un suéter. Entendí 'doble-D.' Aunque no podía entender por qué sería una distracción. 

Nota: Ninguna de estas copas de flores, visto la semana pasada en el Orchidarium de Estepona, son doble-D, pero merecen una segunda mirada.

At the request of our friends at Mesón Salvador, today's post is first in English and then in Spanish (my fractured Spanish, forgive me).

Every time we go to Mesón Salvador (our favorite restaurant in Fuengirola — and possibly the world), we not only enjoy an exceptional meal, but we are showered with love and affection. We receive hugs, kisses, and warm greetings from everyone. No matter our moods when we arrive, we are filled with love and joy (and good food) once there.

Cada vez que vamos a Mesón Salvador (nuestro restaurante favorito en Fuengirola — y posiblemente en el mundo), no sólo disfrutar de una comida excepcional, estamos llenos de amor y afecto.
