And Now For The Fireworks

The festivities surrounding Nuestra Señora la Virgen del Carmen (Virgin of Mt. Carmel), the patron saint of mariners — and therefore of our neighborhood, Los Boliches — ended with a bang Tuesday night. Standing on our terrace, I took 103 photos of the fireworks. I easily whittled that number down to 94. I then continued to whittle until I decided on the 20 you see here. And, although 20 may be a bit much, at least it's not 103. Click on the smallest of the images (of which there are 6) and they'll become truly explosive.

PORTUGUESE MAN OF WAR (JELLY FISH). BETTER IN THE SKY THAN IN THE WATER.

A BIT OMINOUS.

At my mother's beach, they do this every week. (Just not for La Virgen Del Carmen.)

  2. I love a good fireworks show, unless it comes out of a Katy Perry cone bra,

I do, too. And I've never had the opportunity to see anything come out of Kay Perry's bra.

It really was a wonderful spot. I had just very happily escaped the crowds. Just the two of us. The cats watched from a window (and were glad when it was over).

  4. Unbelievable that you were able to snap such amazing shots from your very own balcony.

The most comfortable and obstruction view I've ever had of a fireworks show.

  5. My goodness me, there's a pound or two of black-powder there!

Splendid things, when fired professionally, splendid.

And, unfortunately, sometimes when fired professionally things don't go as planned.

  7. Wonderful photos! The Spanish economy must finally be back on track. The show was a great demonstration of having money to burn!

Apparently tourism is up significantly this year. However, Fuengirola knows where most of the income originates and has done a good job of keeping things going to attract tourists even in especially lean times. Lots more on the beaches this year, which is a good sign.
