Here We Come Again

July will be our third anniversary of living in Spain. And that means it's time again to renew our residency cards.
NOTE:
If you're interested in learning (or re-learning) the history of our visas and residency cards, click away where indicated — and in order, if you're like me. If you don't want to spend your time clicking, then just enjoy the music at the end.

Some of you may remember the hoops we jumped through in California in 2011 to obtain our residency visas (click here and here and here). You may also remember the hoops we jumped through to obtain our one-year residency permits when we first arrived in Sevilla (click here and here). You may even remember the hoops we jumped through to renew our permits — for two more years — after our first year in Sevilla (click here). And then the additional hoops when we moved from Sevilla (in Sevilla Province) to Fuengirola (in Málaga Province)  which required us to get new cards (click here). Oh, and how can I forget, my lost wallet and residency card a few months ago (click here and here).

This will be our first time at the Málaga Foreigner's office. I'm hopeful. They actually answer their phone.

So, here we go...

  3. Wow, and it seems like you still love living there. Hopefully things go much smoother this time. That or sweet talk them with liquor, that might help.

I do absolutely love living here and have hardly begun exploring. Thanks! Fortunately, they don't appear to take bribes. I'll just reward myself with liquor.

  4. I hope you're able to renew your residency visas without difficulty this time. I recall this being a hassle before.

It's never really been too difficult. Just usually confusing. We think we've got it under control this time (famous last words).

  5. Yikes! I only just recently happened upon your posts (in the archives) about your original troubles back when you still lived in the U.S., so knowing you're going through the yearly process again already is really amazing. It HAS to be a good sign that the office answers the phone! :)

This is the first office that answers the phone. Yes, a good sign!

  6. Good luck with that! I seem to remember your post about the last time it happened. :)

  7. Fingers crossed that things go much more smoothly this time; you must be happy there, to undergo the rigours required!
The kidling yelled 'yay' when she heard Dolly singing, Dolly is one of her favourites. I'm...not sure where she got that, maybe you?

VERY happy here. And, given all the work had to do (and the expense) to get here in the first place, there's no turning back!

  8. Could it be worse than the last one? Mind you, if you want to increase your stress levels you should try the German version. Luckily as an EU citizen I have never had to do it but my darling partner has had some 'interesting' experiences!

Never ask if it could be worse. The best advice we ever read was, "Leave your brain at home." Good advice in any bureaucracy.

  9. Crikey! Seems more like just twelve months ago! Hope that this time you get service with more warmth and affability.

  11. May all go smoothly this time. It can be frustrating dealing with bureaucracy anywhere but you are getting very experienced with it in Spain.

  12. Hope all goes well... but y'all know the ropes... and what hoops you have to jump through so maybe it'll go easier. Was thinking of you today... the grocery we go to in Presque Isle used to sell those ... oh heck... those tortilla shaped pastries that are thin... coated with an orange syrup... made in Sevilla... served frequently in Spain but harder than hell to get here... AND... they didn't have them today! Damn! But I still thought of you and Jerry... bet you have them there....

With San Geraldo eating healthy, I don't get much chance to have those wonderful pastries.

  14. Is it really three years? It's scary how fast time flies. I'm still reading your blog Mitch, and loving your photos, though I'm not blogging much myself these days.
