Birdland

We went Wednesday with our friend Kristina to the town of Fuente de Piedra to visit the wetland reserve famous for the flamingos. San Geraldo and I had been there once in 2013. We started this time inside the Visitor Center where the magic began for us and continued as we walked the trails. Too many photos (but only 14 of 169), so I'll shut up now.

(I simply had to go big with the photos. Click to appreciate the wonder.)
(Simplemente tuve que ir grande con las fotos. Haz clic para apreciar la maravilla.)

  1. I had no idea there were Flamingos in Spain. The things I learn from my blogger friends.

Many seem to be down here year-round. Many more migrate from Africa for breeding season. I've seen them in winter, spring, and summer. Amazing [for me] to see.

  2. Absolutely gorgeous Mitchell!!! Wonderful photos. I have never seen a flamingo in real life. I want to be taken around in a wagon full of ice cream!
    Take care.

The first time I saw wild flamingos was from a train window heading from Jerez de la Frontera to Sevilla when we were here in Southern Spain for a visit trying to decide where to live. It was a huge surprise to me.

I hope I never tire of this sight. It's like magic to me to see these birds flying free.

  5. I have often wondered how birds manage to identify their partners for they look so alike , do you know ?

I really have no idea. But then they think we all look alike, too.

  6. What a fun outing! We have flamingos here, but I don't think their underwings are as vivid as the ones you photographed. I have only seen 2 or 3; would love to see big flocks like you saw. The ice cream wagon idea was inspired.

These flamingos looked so white while standing that I was stunned to see how vivid their wing colors were. San Geraldo is an inspiration.

  9. Coming from Florida I have seen my share of flamingos ... of the feathered and plastic variety.
And I'd like a ride in the wagon, too!
