From Paradise To Hope / Desde Paraíso A La Esperanza

Bybanen (Bergen Light Rail) is a great way to get around (and out of) Town. Our hotel is right by the train station, which is right next to a Bybanen stop. We came to Norway with the belief that San Geraldo (aka Big Foot) would be able to find shoes to fit his Viking-sized (or so we thought) feet. We took, Bybanen Monday to a big (for Bergen) shopping center about 20 minutes south of town. We had no luck finding shoes for San Geraldo. (A salesperson said we should go to Denmark because, "They have big feet there.") It seems that Norwegians, although tall and big-boned don't necessarily have feet to match.

Anyway, I bought a shirt. So the trip wasn't a complete waste. Besides, the ride was a pleasure and the views were, too. Two of my favourite stations were Paradis and Hop. Paradise is an area that means exactly what it sounds like, Paradise. Hop, the station that follows Paradis as you leave town, doesn't mean Hope, but I don't care. I like the idea of going from Paradise to Hope and back again.

Later that day, we went to Jerry's cousin Inger's home for dinner and took Bybanen back again to our hotel... passing Paradise and back to Hope

I am so sorry I didn't take photos of Inger's entire sheep collection. I forgot about your love of sheep! She has lots more artwork and a glass case filled with hundreds of wonderful sheep... including some we bought her.

Inger is an incredible cook and host. She and her sister Ellen spent a lot of time with my mother when they were all with us in Vegas in 2007. They became fast friends.

  5. I guess you could Hop to Paradise, but I like your Hope interpretation much better. What an elegant and artistic table your cousin-in-law sets! Will you be heading to Denmark in search of footwear?

In Norwegian, "Hop" sounds more like "Hope." Inger is a gifted cook and host, and she has a joyful style in everything. Always colorful... like her personality.

Haven't you ever heard of New Yorkers who fly to Paris for a weekend of shopping?!? We're Malagueños who fly to Bergen to buy shoes. So chic.
