Uff Da! / Uff! / ¡Uf!

IN BERGEN WITH MY ADORED MOTHER-IN-LAW.
EN BERGEN CON MI SUEGRA ADORADA.

I'm speaking three languages today! But only in the title. "Uff Da" is Norwegian for "Uff," which is English for "Uf," which is Spanish for "Uff Da." San Geraldo and I will fly to Norway Saturday for a few weeks.

We'll spend the first week-plus in Bergen (where his grandmother grew up and lived until emigrating to the USA).

We then plan to fly up to Northern Norway (above the Arctic Circle) to finally see where San Geraldo's grandfather lived until he found his way to South Dakota.

We went to Norway for the first time with San Geraldo's mother, Alice, in 1998. It was a magical trip. She died unexpectedly in 1999. He and I were back for Christmas 2005 and we haven't been back since. We are so excited.

It's happily hectic here.
Uff Da! Uff! ¡Uf!

¡Estoy hablando tres idiomas hoy! Pero solo en el título. "Uff Da" es noruego para "Uff" que es inglés para "Uf" que es español para "Uff Da". San Geraldo y yo volaremos a Noruega el sábado por unas semanas.

SAN GERALDO AND ALICE, 1998.
SAN GERALDO Y ALICE, 1998.

Uff Da! Uff! ¡Uf!

  3. How I envy you - Norway is the one Scandinavian country we have yet to visit. Have a wonderful time - and take lots of pictures. If I can't get there for real at least I can do it vicariously through you.

And it's the only one we've been to. But the North will be completely new to us. You will get so tired of pictures!

Dudo has noticed the suitcases and activity and he's clearly concerned (and clingy). I just spotted one of his toy mice in one of the suitcases.

  5. I have a Viking magnet glued on a postcard that gives the meaning of UFF DA. a souvenir from a trip to Minneapolis.

South Dakota! The first time Jerry heard Garrison Keillor, he couldn't understand why people thought it was all so funny.

We are well prepared with layers and rain gear, and jackets and ties. Will channel Alice the entire time. She was everything to us.

I hope we don't freeze, but that will just give us more stories to tell. So exciting. And especially to be back in Bergen, a city we love, with family we love.

I love that American expression. Interesting that the French use it, too. Merci!

  15. Ooh, I've been to Bergen! So long ago that it was in my "staying in youth hostel" years. Beautiful place, as was all of Norway that I saw.

    Have a wonderful time.

We're staying in style this time. The first time, we booked a hotel that had been recommended to us. Our family in Bergen, whom we hadn't yet met, were a bit hesitant to see us. It had only just recently changed from a hotel that charged by the hour!
