Fire In The Hull / Incendio En El Casco

La versión español está después de la versión inglés.

ON MY WALK to the medical center yesterday to have my stitches removed (all is well, but my leg is not ready for its close-up, Mr. Demille), I noticed a thick cloud of black smoke in the sky. I headed back to the beach to see where it was coming from. A boat had caught fire at the entrance to the Port of Fuengirola. I watched firefighters arrive and quickly extinguish the fire, but I was shocked by the number of people who stood, swam, and boated nearby. There was a large group standing right next to the port's fuel station, which was very close to the blaze. Anyway, all was well and no one was hurt, except the one boat. And I saw who did it! (See the last photo.)

THE GETAWAY CAR! I'LL SHARE THIS PHOTO WITH THE POLICE.
¡EL COCHE DE HUIDA! VOY A ENVIAR LA FOTO A LA POLICÍA.

  1. LOL! Did she get away?
Your account of this in photos is really well done. I truly believe that press/media outlets would be interested in these!

I haven't read anything about it yet. My guess it was the open fire for the paella. I was shocked by how close people stayed to the fire, especially the ones standing right by the fuel tanks! I would have kept my distance (and did).

  3. WOW! I would get as far away from that if I were there; how can people have such a blasé attitude?

People just don't think sometimes (well, all too often).

  4. PS - I think you took that first pix not for the black smoke, but for the smoking hot guys butts!

Sometimes I just get lucky (but I only find one of those of any interest).

  5. I am glad your leg is getting better so you will not have to wear an infamous but cool peg leg. It would match your Macho Man Monastrell style though.

Most of the people in the water were watching, but so many people didn't even seem to notice the gigantic plume of smoke or the flames.

  8. WOW ! That fire has certainly added a bit extra to the Spanish carbon footprint. Those culprits of yours look decidedly guilty to me - perhaps there is a bounty on them do you think ?

No bounty yet. I can't believe the police didn't jump on my evidence.

  9. That is a lot of black smoke from a pretty small boat! If owners of any of the neighboring boats were nearby, I am sure they were worried. Love your photos, especially the get-away car! So obvious with the escape slide in case the police cotton on.

I was very concerned about what else might catch fire. I suppose the fact that it was a calm day helped keep it under control. The getaway driver was very cool and casual. I was the only one who caught on.

  10. They do seem oblivious to all that smoke. How exciting.

We were far enough away, but I really was stunned by all those people watching from nearby. I would have put a lot of distance between myself and those gas pumps... not to mention a burning power boat.
