This Seat Taken

It's tough living in paradise. I bruised my leg last week (and, par for my course, I have no idea how; it might have happened one of the 17 times I slammed my shin into the corner of the bed frame). My thigh and calf were very sore to the touch and my ankle was swollen. There were a couple of black and blue marks. It's almost completely better now, but I tried to give it a couple day's rest. I thought I'd sit on the terrace in the sunshine and read. Dudo and Moose had been relaxing outside for some time. They have both amazingly learned the rules of the terrace and they even come inside when called (well mostly). On this particular day, Dudo saw me aiming for the chaise in the sun and he raced me to it. I was in shorts, so he wouldn't sit on my lap (nor would I want him to). I asked him to move. He wouldn't. The lounge chair around the corner was in the shade. I was forced to go down to the beach. Favoring my leg as I was, I ended up bruising the ball of my foot. Like I said, it's tough living in paradise.

"WHERE ARE YOU GONNA SIT?"
THE SHADEY SIDE.
I WAS EVENTUALLY EXILED TO THE BEACH.
(CLICK TO SEE HOW I SUFFERED, BIG-TIME.)
"GOOD VIEW FROM HERE."
LOOKS LIKE HE PLANS TO BE THERE A WHILE.
FULL BODY TREATMENT.
CLEARLY SETTLING IN. NAP TIME.
"OH, ARE YOU STILL HERE?"
THE GQ POSE.
TRYING TO GET A LITTLE COLOR IN HIS CHEEKS.
THIS IS WHEN I GAVE UP.

  1. LOL! I love the pictures! Your little ones are so photogenic. Hope your leg/foot heals up soon, so you can enjoy paradise even more.

Speaking of paradise, I just returned from a 12-day trip to Scotland. Now, that is MY idea of paradise. My friend and I saw Edinburgh, toured the Highlands and the Isle of Skye, and finally Glasgow. Such a fantastic trip! Can't wait to go back. Next time for a month.

Oooooh, Scotland. I've never been there. My sister met her husband in Edinburgh 40 years ago! She loved the city. I bet you had a ball with the tartans!

  2. Isn't it amazing how well our cats have us trained? Ours could always take the best chair or the middle of the bed and neither one of us would even think of "asking" them to move.

And we must be very clever; we learn so quickly. I do, sometimes, make Dudo and Moose move over in bed.

They are more content every day. They've been with us a year now. It's a love fest.

It's amazing how expressive their faces can be. One look says it all.

  7. Mine sits in my chair, be it at the computer or the dining table and with the sweetest little look set in cast iron unquestionably conveys,
"Don't even hope for or think about it."

Same here... although I don't know that I'd call that look "sweet."

  8. I want to live where I won't freeze in the winter...Spain would be good. So would a Greek island. The south of France mayhap?

Your furry bebes are a delight and have taught you well. I, on the other hand, am evil; as much as I love mine I'll still look at them sternly and proclaim (in a Mom voice of course) "I have a spray bottle and I know how to use it!" Lately, however, they've begun licking my toes in revenge. EW!

Southern Spain, definitely... but not in the mountains.

We've got a spray bottle, too. That's how we're training them to not visit the neighbor's terrace. It also worked to teach them to come inside when we tell them. Now they do so without the presence of the spray bottle. So, I guess we're a little evil, too!

  9. Well, now, Mitchell, you had me chuckling out loud all along the length of the blog today (except, of course, at hearing about your bruises and swelling! Yikes!) Thanks! I love those kitties!

  12. He makes damn sure you know your place - sores notwithstanding, or, in your case, not sitting.
For what good it'll do, I sympathise with your aches and pains, as I'm experiencing similarly painful locomotions. But with your comparative youth it's even less fair for you.

Comparative youth? You're not far ahead of me. But, this has nothing to do with age (I think); I have always bruised easily for some reason (must be the royal blood... son of the duchess, you know). And I tend to walk into things. A bad combination.

The cats have definitely settled into life with us. We're so grateful we brought them home.

Thanks regarding my bruising. Doing a lot better. So today I rammed my ankle!
