I'M OFF THIS morning to have a tooth pulled. The orthodontist said my teeth are all so healthy and the roots are so strong that she didn't want to remove any. But realigning all my teeth would take 1-1/2 as many Invisalign trays and a lot more time. So a good tooth in a bad position will have to go.
ESTA MAÑANA ME voy a sacar un diente. El ortodoncista dijo que mis dientes son todos tan saludables y las raíces son tan fuertes que no quería quitar ninguna. Pero realinear todos mis dientes tomaría 1-1/2 tantas alineadores Invisalign y mucho más tiempo. Así que un buen diente en una mala posición tendrá que ir.

DeleteHad 4 wisdom teeth done at the same time a long, long time ago. The oral surgery was a factory with three unpleasant surgeons. Awful experience. Nightmare recovery. This was so much better.
Poor good tooth.

Deleteit's nice to have it gone. It had been forced completely out of place so that, with it removed, it doesn't even look like there's a tooth missing... except for the ugly raw hole that is quickly closing up.
I wondered about whether or not you would need a tooth or two removed. I think it's often a crowding issue that causes us to need braces/Invisalign in the first place.
ReplyDeleteI assume you'll have some kind of retainer after the Invisalign era. Be sure to keep up with wearing that at night, or your teeth will spread apart ... it's not a myth :)

DeleteYes, my mouth is crowded. I was surprised and relieve to only have to have one tooth removed (she didn't even want to do that initially). I went to an orthodontist when I was 30, and he wanted to pull four good teeth!
I had to have my 4 wisdom teeth pulled long ago. I don't recall it being too bad except for the taste of the wounds. Good luck!

DeleteMy wisdom teeth experience years ago was a nightmare. Awful oral surgery "factory," terrible problems after. This was surprisingly easy. Recovery is just annoying and nothing more. So much better today.

DeleteI have no problem with dentists, not even for this. And when the oral surgeon finished, she told me I was an exceptionally good patient. (But no lolly pop!)
I hope your tooth-pulling is as uneventful as mine was a few years ago. Modern dentistry is such an improvement over the past.

DeleteRecovery is inconvenient, but not too bad. The extraction itself was a breeze. You're so right about modern dentisty... well, and a good oral surgeon!
I read these in reverse; I am glad it wasn't about bad teeth or rotten gums.

DeleteI was surprised when the dentist told me my teeth and roots were all strong. Otherwise I wouldn't go to the trouble/expense of braces now. I've been very lucky because I sure didn't take good care of my teeth through my 20s. I brushed and flossed, but I didn't see a dentist for 12 years! I've been good ever since.
