A NEW RECORD / UN NUEVO RECORD

TODAY IS A fifth anniversary for us. We have lived in Fuengirola for five years. In the same apartment in Fuengirola for five years! That's a record for us. In more than 36 years together, we have never lived this long in any one place. I've included aerials and street views of our first 12 years.

  2. I am happy to be among those who have been following your blog for over five years, now, since you were still in Madrid when I first started getting to know you.

When did you get Dudo and Moose? I have a feeling that I was reading your blog (when you were in Madrid) when you got them, but maybe you already had them?

We've been lucky with almost all the places we've lived (we also chose carefully when it was in our control).

  5. I can't believe it's been longer than than that I've been following (figuratively) you. I think the older one gets, the faster time flies.

I agree. Five years in one place would have felt like an eternity in my earlier life!

I've thought of inserting "NOT" into the title, but then Mitchell is Moving can carry another meaning... Don't I move you?

  7. You have lived in some beautiful places. I think your current location must keep you from being bored! In my undergrad days, I moved at least once a year. Then it was 5 years in one place, 10 years in the next, and 20 in the next. Hope I make it 40 where I am now. Let's see that would make me nearly 100 for the next move - sounds about right.

We've really been lucky to live in so many exceptional places. My father was, like me, a wanderer, but my mother refused to move. So until I was 17, owing to my mother, we lived in only 3 homes. The minute I got out on my own, it all changed. Undergrad, I was just like you.

  9. I can relate. The longest place I've lived since birth is the house I'm in now. Very close to 15 years. The previous record was the Congo St. house in SF; 8 years. Before that, I think that 4 years was the record somewhere, sometime. The strangest thing I've realized in 15 years in one home is that all manner of things will eventually need to be replaced. I never noticed that when I just moved away.

My sister in law and brother in law always built their own houses. They felt that if it was time to paint it was time to build a new house.

    1. Adam,
Even in childhood I never made it to 10years one one house. My mother said my father had the 7year itch. She wouldn’t let him scratch it again!

  11. Pretty places, you have a wonderful view where you are now, and the cats don't want to move (they never like to move.) When we sell the other house next fall, we will have owned it 24 years.

I had a job once for 5 years. Well, 4 positions in the same department. I was very impressed with my groundedness.

Neither of us can imagine a reason to leave... but that never stopped us before.
