Jelly Bean

WHILE WALKING AROUND the Port of Fuengirola with a recent, temporary, burst of energy (we are both still ailing and cold season has been so bad here that all the pharmacies are out of the most popular over-the-counter cold treatment), I saw one jelly fish among the usual fish waiting for some free food.

As you might expect (no you wouldn't), that jelly fish sighting started me craving jelly beans. I love gourmet jelly beans and can't remember the last time I had any.

And thinking about jelly beans got me thinking about being a Jelly Beaner. There was a children's television show in New York City in 1959/1960 called The Johnny Jellybean Show, which evolved from a show called Time For Fun. There were a few versions of the show over the years, including a popular version in Canada. I idolized Johnny Jellybean. All I ever wanted was a hat like his (a beanie). I never did get one. My Mother The Dowager Duchess made it obvious she didn't have the same fondness for Johnny, the show, or the hat. I think I had already stopped watching the show by the time Keith Hefner (Playboy's Hugh Hefner's brother) took over as J.J. Jellybean.

Anyway... San Geraldo must have sensed my craving for jelly beans because he decided to bake a chocolate cake just for us, which makes about as much sense as anything else I've said today.

Tomorrow, if there's any energy, I'll be off in search of jelly beans... and I'll have photos of the chocolate cake.

Yo idolatraba a Johnny Jellybean.

Sorry,. Couldn't find any black jelly beans, but I did find a gourmet fruit mix. As for chocolate cake, we have the best chocolate cake in the world right here at home.

  3. Jellyfish are beautiful in their own weird way. And I'm with anne marie about the black jelly beans -- yum! Actually, at the moment I'm eating a hot cross bun because, you know, Easter is only 6 weeks away!

Ooh, hot cross buns. Can you still get them one a penny two a penny? I also love black jelly beans but couldn't find a one today! Fruits will have to do (well, fruits always do, don't they?).

  5. How do you feel about Jelly Bellys booger flavor? There's gourmet for you.

Would booger really be considered "gourmet" or simply "special"? No matter. No thanks!

  6. I love every jelly bean I've ever tasted except the generic bitter pink ones. Jelly Belly makes excellent sugar free ones. Of course, if you have no self control and have to eat the whole bag *cough* it would be wise to stay near a bathroom.
Beautiful pictures. That last one makes me want to watch Jaws for the trillionth time.

Oh, I learned my lesson with those sugar-free Jelly Bellys. Knowing how I loved jelly beans, our niece (15 at the time) bought me a box of assorted Jelly Bellys at Trader Joe's. I didn't realize they were sugar-free (not that it would have mattered). After inhaling the entire small box, guess where I ended up!

  7. I don't crave jelly beans, but if there was a bowl of them nearby, I'm sure I'd eat them all in one sitting.

That's how I am. I did find a local version of Jelly Belly's. Haven't opened the bag yet. One saving graces of having Invisalign braces is that I have to remove them before I eat anything!

  8. Love jelly beans, especially the black ones. Haven't had any in years. Do they show up at Easter-time in Spain?

They're not common or popular here. And as for Easter, it's the specialty bakery goodies that are even more popular.
