Oh, Brother! / ¡Oh, Hermano!

TOMORROW IS THE Kid Brother's birthday. We've been back in business on FaceTime these past few weeks. Still no email, but I'm going to let that go for now. Having minimal reading and writing skills, he really has no use for it anyway. Today on FaceTime, I promised I would call him to wish him a happy birthday. I'll sing. He'll laugh. We'll both be happy. Life with The Kid Brother has never been easy, but it's gotten so much better now. And no matter how difficult it's ever been, I've always adored him — although it took me years to realize my feelings for him were not simply a result of responsibility. Besides, he's always found me entertaining.

  1. What a cute post of brotherly love. I see in the last picture he tuckered you out!!!!!

On a side note, in the 1967 picture, would you believe I have the same Pan Am bag!!!!!! I found it at a vintage shop for $16 and use it for overnight use for my toiletries.

You bought my Pan Am bag! I finally donated it to Goodwill in 2011 before our move to Spain. But $16?!? Pan Am gave it away free. (Remember when company's didn't make you pay to give them free advertising?)

Gunslinger and Gunflinger. He had quite a temper and gave me many a fat lip with those guns. I finally hid them from him.

He's more like a son to me than a brother. But a son who's also always been my best pal. A very special relationship.

  4. I've always found your relationship with the Kid Brother one of the best reasons for coming to this blog. Thanks for setting me the example of patience and fortitude I need at the moment.

Your comment means so much to me. Yeah, fortitude. I didn't have much patience for many things in my life and would regularly lose my cool. But I rarely lost my cool with him (or at least so he knew). But, fortitude. I would knew have thought I had it until you said it. I'd be happy to listen if you need to vent/share what you're going through via email. Thanks!

    1. Truth be told, anne marie, I CAN cook to some level... I just don't enjoy it. My mother taught Chuck to make scrambled eggs when he was a kid. Hyperactive, Obsessive-Compulsive and scrambled eggs were a perfect match in his case. He would scramble the eggs until they were as light and airy as whipped cream. He also told her some years ago, after watching a Chinese cooking show, he wanted a WOK. So she bought him one for his apartment. He used it constantly. To made pork chops!

  6. Bros! Any good relationship takes 'work' and it sounds and looks like you both have reaped the benefits.

  11. Add our happy birthday wishes to yours. The last time I was in Florida we set facebook up on my middle brother's phone, he "liked" a picture I posted over the weekend, old dogs and new tricks.

Wow. That's wonderful about "middle brother." Facebook would be more than my brother could (or should) handle. He'd be clicking everything!

I told him today that he's famous. He said, "I know!" But I told him anyway that you wished him a happy birthday. He said, "Good." Gotta love him!

  13. Does he do you kind of cooking? Or the actual turn on the oven/stove kind? Happy birthday to your brother!

I don't think he does so much cooking anymore. But he used to make pork chops (in his WOK!!!) among other things. So, he DID turn on the stove.
