The First Child / El Primer Niño

La versión español está después de la primera foto.

WE SHIPPED BOXES of stuff from New York to Spain after my mother died in August 2016 and we've still got a lot to dig through. Yesterday, I re-found a box containing my sister Dale's baby book. My mother lost interest with the book after a while. And she didn't even bother starting a baby book for me (the sad middle child) or for The Kid Brother. I guess the novelty had worn off.  Well, there was also a matter of time management, I'm sure. Although I know I was the perfect child, she certainly had less time on her hands.

THE BOX WAS LABELED FOR SALE, "PINK BABY BOOK."

  1. Awww...your sister sure was a cute baby! I think it's pretty common for first children to have more pictures and keepsakes than their siblings. Parents get worn down once the second and third babies come along!

She was always a beauty. Except for professional photos, the kid brother reallly got the raw end of th deal.

    1. Maddie,
I was a really good kid until I hit about16. Still good but the things I’d do that my parents never knew about.... unlike my sister who needed them to bail her out of every bad situation! Oh how I would love to see your baby book!

  3. I totally agree with Jennifer. Parents get tired! I'm the first born of six siblings. My auntsays that when I was born I got bathed twice a day by everybody and their cousins! I had eighteen months of bubble bath bliss, all to myself. They had six kids from 1956 to 1964. By the time number five came along, so my aunt says, she was just thrown in the tub with soap and washcloth and told to go for it :) At five I was on diaper duty, the cloth kind with pins. We weren't a sentimental group, so no mementos except one studio photo of us all. I still have that.

    1. Deedles,
My mother appears to have tired before she even got through Dale’s baby book!

  4. Cute photo of baby Dale, love that thumb in her mouth. I don't think there were baby books for any of us, but there sure were lots of pictures.

  6. Nobody seems to care about the children except the oldest one.

  7. How sweet, as the youngest of four the level of collecting declined as the family grew.

    1. Spo,
I have so much of this history to preserve through scans.

  9. I have a similar book, but mine of course is blue. And yes, I am the oldest child. I don't think my siblings have baby books. The first pages are meticulously filled out. Then it goes blank shortly before the time my parents split up. I filled in some of the missing stuff when I was a teenager. I've also recorded my career info and wedding, more recently. I wonder if anyone on earth has a complete baby book?

    1. Walt the Fourth,
Sad that a baby book could hint at other things going on. I think Jerry’s mother completed ALL the baby books!
