Brother, Brother / Hermano, Hermano

La versión español está después de la primera foto.

THE KID BROTHER hasn't been very cooperative lately. I don't think he's shown up for a single FaceTime chat since our visit in July. When I eventually reach him by phone — sometimes later in the day, sometimes later in the week — he's always happy to hear from me and very pleasant, so I'm clearly not on his shit list. In the past, he would initiate the FaceTime call. Since he keeps his iPad turned off and in its original box when not in use, I can't just randomly call him on FaceTime. So, I've suggested we try a planned call, that I initiate, next Saturday. He agreed to have his iPad ready to go at that time. We'll see.

Dudo and Moose, those other brothers, communicate much more readily... although sometimes with no more success.

DUDO: "HEY! WHERE'D YOU GO?"
DUDO: "¡OYE! ¿DÓNDE FUISTE?"
"WHAT'D I SAY?!?"
"¿¡¿QUÉ DIJE?!?"

  1. Gotta admire your brother's care for important things. Is his life otherwise driven by schedule and routine? The cats, look my oldest brother and I discussing the weather. He quit talking to me for almost two years one time over a comment on Facebook.

    1. Travel,
His life Fe is obsessed with schedule. Lunch, dinner, shower, bed, laundry... bed. Other things get in the way. Chuck used to go months without speaking to my mother. I was the recipient once in the ‘80s. Lasted 4 weeks.

    1. Anne Marie,
That photo is by San Diego photographer Jeff Palmer. We bought in the ‘90s at a silent auction fundraiser for the San Diego GLBTQ Center.

    1. Ron,
Not a Mapplethorpe. San Diego photographer Jeff Palmer. But it’s also signed by the model who stayed at our hotel in Palm Springs.

  4. Dudo and Moose remind me of myself and my brother as kids, though they're fights are a lot cuter.

    1. Bob,
I could never go to battle with my brother, although I did take a number of beatings from him. Never cute.

  5. Uh oh, cat with ears back... never a good moment. Ha! That should be a new warning sign: "Careful! Cat with ears back!"

    1. Judy,
They go at it daily. And often end up with battle scars.. before going to sleep next to each other.

    1. Adam,
Moose quite often does the attacking and then whines like he’s being abused the entire time. Quite often we have to yell at them to stop.

So glad my brother didn’t do this daily... like the cats.

  8. Sort of like our two dogs (half sisters) - we look out and see the big one chasing the little one and then we look again and it is the little chasing the big one. They do this off and on all day long and in between they gnaw on each others legs.

    1. Also - glad you are not on Chuck's shit list; I bet that is a hard list to get off.

    2. Wilma,
Dudo and Moose really go at it often ending up with battle wounds. And, yes, you are so right about Chuck. He can hold a grudge for a long long time.

  9. I have missed you dear!!!!

Cats look so funny when they fight. But of course, if Moose would just sit his large ass on DuDo that may give him the win. For at least a day.

I have missed you, too! I told Moose what you said. I won’t repeat his response.

    1. Kirk,
Dumb cats. It’s a Jeff Palmer. Not worth such a big fight, but then families have been torn apart for less.

  11. Now if THIS isn't a 'comic strip' in the making, nothing is!!
    What a couple of 'actors'!
    And Chuck continues his strategy....

Do you suppose Chuck actually has a plan?

    2. I do. Not a malicious one however. He wants to have some control his own life. And when 'things get in the way' he does what he can.

I know. And as long as there’s no yowling, I let them go at it.

  15. Typical siblings lol, no actual scratching involved, just boxing. I wonder what changed with your brother? Perhaps a little more independent now.

    1. Cheapchick,
Sometimes there’s just no making sense of Chuck’s behavior. As for the cats, they sometimes do each other damage. This was fairly gentle play.
