Soothing Sounds / Sonidos Relajantes

La versión español está después de la primera foto.

I OPENED THE windows at around 4 this morning so I could sleep to the calming sounds of the Mediterranean surf. At 8 I awoke to a roar. I saw a very gentle sea and a maintenance worker with a gas-powered leaf blower. The team was out in force. Smurfs.

A bit later, along came a truck to haul away some of the summer boardwalk. Ah, the gentle sounds of the sea.

AFTER I CLOSED THE WINDOW.
DESPUÉS DE QUE CERRÉ LA VENTANA.

  1. Hey, I've awaken to that, but WITHOUT the Mediterranean!

    1. Kirk,
Yeah. I shouldn’t complain. Our complex in Irvine did this all day almost every day. Every tool was gas powered. I worked from home and had to keep the entire place closed up or I couldn’t even hear the phone. And no sea view.

    1. Adam,
It’s not one of the settings on my old sound spa.

  3. In the summer, I usually get woken up around 5:00 a.m. by the beep-beep-beep of semis backing up to the loading docks of two nearby big box stores. And of course, fire, ambulance and police sirens can strike at any time of night. The joys of urban downtown living!

    1. Debra,
Oh I hate that. That was one of the many sounds from my mother’s neighborhood. I’ll shut up now.

  4. Boy! They don't waste any time as soon as the tourists are gone! Neat as a pin!
Wish they were that conscientious around here.

    1. Jim,
They really do stay up on things... except for these trees they keep planting and replacing and replacing. About one quarter are dead at any given time!

  5. I wish they let you select the uniforms for the maintenance guys.

  6. I already miss the sounds from my vacation. It's now back to hearing the sound of the katydids and crickets at night.

    1. Maddie,
You could have returned home to much worse sounds.

  7. Leaf blowers have to be the most annoying of the gardening "tools." Running a close second are the weed-whackers. Full disclosure: I have two weed whackers. One's gas powered, the other electric. I haven't used the gas powered one in many, many years. I use the electric one for occasional trimming. I have a neighbor that uses his to cut his entire lawn. Aack!

    1. Walt the Fourth,
And gas-powered! As if the noise weren’t bad enough, let’s add fumes. Glad you’re not using yours anymore. And, yeah, I used to use electric hedge trimmers in Palm Springs. Weed whacked in Connecticut until I whacked my foot!
