Too Close To The Sun / Demasiado Cerca Del Sol

I HAVE ALWAYS been fascinated by the Greek myth of Daedalus and his son Icarus. Daedalus made wings of wax and feathers for himself and Icarus. He warned Icarus to not fly close to the sun or the sea. But Icarus, overcome by the joy of flying, flew too close to the sun causing the wings to melt. He fell into the sea and drowned.

My photo of the sun during Thursday's sunrise made me think of Icarus.

  3. That last one took my breath away! Gorgeous, and I could imagine Icarus too. Then my warped mind took over, and I saw a frowning sun with a lip stud.

  4. Strange that you should mention the topic as 'twas but yesterday when I was reading the W.H.Auden poem 'Musee des Beaux Arts' - which I've know from before anyway, but still..a little bit spooky.

  5. Amazing photos!!!!! I too like Greek mythology. I just compared the end of summer, which I hate to feeling like Persephone going back to the underworld for 6 months. My mother Demeter always start to weep which explain why fall sets in and winter in her depressed state explains the dead of winter. When spring arrives, why know Demeter is happy again as Persephone in return to earth for another 6 months.

    1. Judy,
Thanks. It’s a surprisingly good zoom for so simple. But the timing of the gull was pure luck. I didn’t even know it was there.

  7. Isn't dawn a wonderful way to start the day? So full of promise and potential; just don't crash into the sea. You captured it well.
