Trigoinfladoconmiel Treats

La versión español está después de la primera foto.

OUR FRIEND KATHLEEN decided to try her hand making Rice Krispies Treats. For those of you unfamiliar with these American culinary wonders, the standard recipe includes butter, plain marshmallows, and Rice Krispies breakfast cereal.

Kathleen went to the supermarket and found butter, of course. But she didn't find plain white marshmallows. Nor did she find Rice Krispies cereal.

So, Kathleen made do. She used "trigo inflado con miel" (puffed wheat with honey), pink marshmallows, and "chocolate de caramelo" (which is like American caramels).

I call what Kathleen made "Trigoinfladoconmiel Treats." The name may not be quite so catchy, but these suckers beat Rice Krispies Treats by a mile.

TRIGOINFLADOCONMIEL TREATS DE KATHLEEN,

NUESTRA AMIGA KATHLEEN decidió hacer "Rice Krispie Treats."

TRADITIONAL, BORING, RICE KRISPIES TREAT.
TRADICIONAL, ABURRIDO, RICE KRISPIES TREAT.

I think Kathleen simply used a traditional Rice Krispies Treats recipe ... and then replaced everything.

  2. Sounds like some kind of antibiotic! Puffed wheat, huh? Growing up, my siblings and I had a different word for these. Considering what they look like and the fact we are all female, you can imagine our names. I'll leave it at that. I loathe rice krispie treats! I watch cake baking shows and I always forget that the "treats" are edible. They're good for building fantastic looking cakes.

I'll tell Kathleen one of the names I THINK you would have called them and why. It's pretty obvious after one glance. In my version, both words start with "P."

  3. You're too kind! I think the cereal would be the equivalent of honey smacks. I wanna know what Deedles called them!

The first time I ever had them I was nearly 40. Someone at work made them and brought them. Unfortunately, she was no cook and there was a one-inch-thick layer of butter on the bottom.

  7. Love Rice Krispie Treats but we only made them once in a while.
Your friends Treats look wonderful but I don't like Honey Smacks to dry and tough for me so these might help.

    cheers, parsnip and badger

I don't like wheat puffs usually. This was the best way to serve them.

All I know is Kathleen took a standard Rice Krispies Treats recipe ... and adapted with the products she could find.
