Two For One?

You know how I like to poke fun at couples that dress alike? Maybe you don't know, but I do. Before I get dressed, I always check with San Geraldo to make sure we don't walk out the door in the same colors or identical styles – i.e., twin polo shirts, twin khakis, similar jackets, hooded sweatshirts, even V-neck T-shirts... Hmmm, maybe I make too much of it. San Geraldo thinks so. Anyway, it's one of those things that bugs me.

However, I keep noticing twosomes and groupsomes out in public who clearly haven't given a thought to their joint combinations. I find myself harumphing to myself that they should coordinate before they go out. I then appreciate the irony of that.

I guess I should just mind my own business.

And take pictures (for you to click and enlarge).

I was shooting this images for the individual combinations, until I saw the couple at upper left. Then I realized this was a team effort.

  2. There is a poem, about a woman declaring that when she grows old, she is going to wear purple (good "grow old and wear purple.) Don't we all wear what makes us feel good about ourselves today.

I love that poem, mentioned it recently on another blog, too. Many people wear what makes them feel good. Others, I think, don't give it a single thought. They just get dressed.

  3. Now, you know I do like mixing my plaids, and sometimes my stripes, but if Carlos started doing that and we stepped looking like a pair of matching mismatched bookends, well, that would be the end of that.

One bad outfit is kinda kooky and cool, two is just plain rude.

That reminds me of "The Importance of Being Earnest." "To lose one parent, Mr. Worthing, may be regarded as a misfortune; to lose both looks like carelessness."

  4. Man, nothing bugs me more than the Bobbsey Twins look, especially on gay/lesbian couples. I too always make sure My Rare One and I aren't dressed alike. She sides with San Geraldo on this, I'm afraid, and thinks I'm ridiculously overzealous.

I DO get carried away. I changed shirts this morning because Jerry and I were both wearing V-neck T-shirts. Different colors, but still...

So, do I! Maybe we need to be more courageous.

  6. Gets me wondering how other people see things in the world around them if they choose(?) to dress so.....loudly.
Hey maybe 'we' are the weird ones?!!
Ron and I often don't notice what we are wearing until we are already 'out the door'!! Identical twins sometimes.....we giggle at ourselves!! lol

Oh, I'd run back in the house and change. It's ridiculous. But, you're so right, maybe we ARE the weird ones. (Well, I know for certain I am.)

  7. "groupsomes" love this new word firstly.
Secondly, disphoria is rampant in society and so seeking simple, the plain and minimalistic pleasures sounds soul- calming to me.
Now let's see is today a plaid day or a stripes day ~ nooooooo!!

Everything is so clean and well-pressed. They must look at me and think, "Does he own an iron? Does he believe in anything other than 'solid' or 'subtle'"?

  9. I'm with you on that. That drives me insane! I also drives me nuts when guy couples date someone who looks just like them. At times you'd swear they were brothers. I find opposites hotter and more interesting.

I also like differences but after all these years, although Jerry and I look nothing alike, we have begun to resemble each other! Poor Jerry.

I do, too. For me, many things I see work really well as separates. I just get a bit dizzy with some of the combinations.

  12. Most of my clothes are boringly solid. Today I wore dark dark blue shorts and a turquoise shirt. But I threw off the whole look with bronze and brown flipflops. Never mind the bright green insulated shopping bag, 1 pink paisley tote, and a mostly maroon-hued multi-patterned tote made from old ties that I was carrying as I did the weekly shopping.

Any patterns I have tend to be very subtle. Jerry can pull off big, bold patterns (but he only does one at a time). Too bad you don't live around here; your shopping combination would definitely make it onto these pages.

  13. Worse than samesies on on gay and lesbian couples is those overweight middled aged heteros who both look like poorly dressed lesbians. The matching LLBean look.

Do we ALL begin to look alike as we age? (I don't know since I haven't begun to age yet...)
