Orchids With Teeth / Orquídeas Con Dientes

La versión en español está después de la versión en inglés (y antes de las fotos).
San Geraldo has completed three of four teeth-cleaning appointments. Like so many people, he hates going to the dentist. Unfortunately, it pains him so much that he has to spread a cleaning over four visits instead of getting it over with in one or two.

My teeth are now clean and sparkly. Although I was apprehensive about my visit to the dentist (I have no idea why), everything went perfectly and easily. And I'm going to get braces!!! My bottom teeth have always needed straightening, but that requires my top teeth to be done as well to ensure everything aligns. I can now get Invisalign braces (clear polyurethane) and can finally stop complaining about my teeth. I'm so excited.

When I was told the cost, I hesitated and said I'd need to talk it over with San Geraldo. In my 45-minute walk home from the orthodontist, I talked myself into and out of it a few times.

I thought, 'Well, if I do this, I can't complain about San Geraldo blowing money at the casino.'

Then I thought, 'But if I do this, there won't be any money left for San Geraldo to blow at the casino.'

And then I thought, 'Of course there will!'

When I got home, San Gerald immediately insisted it was worth it if it would make me happy. I knew he would say that without hesitation.

He continued, "Besides, then you can't lecture me about going to the casino!"

To distract from the dental stress, below are the rest of my orchid photos from the Orchidarium in Estepona.

¡Voy a conseguir brackets!

  1. I have learned to grin-and-bear-it with the dentist, not my favorite thing to do. Too many bad memories of my father's flying buddies who were better pilots than dentists.

I really don't mind it at all. Odd. Jerry is on his way there again this morning!

  2. Oh Mitchel, such gorgeous orchids! What beautiful colours.
The dentist is not my favourite thing either. I thought your teeth already looked wonderful. I guess they now will be stunning!

Thanks regarding my teeth. I've finally learned to like my smile, and it frustrates me that I'm still so vain/self-conscious. So I'm glad to finally not only get the bottom fixed but get everything to look -- I hope -- the way I've always wanted.

Thanks so much! The orchids are other-worldly... which lately seems like a nice place to be.

  4. Well done on the orchid photos! They are beautiful.
I wore braces on my teeth in my 40s and have never regretted it. I am so much happier with how my teeth look and also how much easier it is to keep my front lower teeth clean now that they aren't as crowded and overlapping. It will be a good investment in your future health and well-being. And who know, maybe SG will be able to pay for it all with his winnings at the casino! ;-)

My bottom teeth aren't easy to maintain, so I'm really happy to read of your experience. (San Geraldo won at the casino yesterday!!! Not enough to cover the teeth...)

  5. I get my teeth cleaned every six months and I don't find the process painful. Sad that San Geraldo must go through four sessions to get this done.

I agree. He wishes he could handle more at once. He's getting ready to head back over now! I find the process relaxing!

  6. I had the old kind of braces in my teenage years, hated it then. I am sure it has come a long way since then. Poor guy, 4 times for a cleaning! I hate it too but limit it to once a year(they always try and get you to go twice but I just wait to rebook :))

I read last year that the every-6-months recommendation was kind of random and not based in medical/dental fact! My dentist in California actually had me in every FOUR months! Not anymore. And my teeth are fine. Invisalign is a lot more expensive, but at my age, faster and less visible seemed like the right choice. Here's hoping!

  7. I have an orchid in my garden, but none as beautiful as those! And that's wonderful that San Geraldo is so supportive. I'm not vain about many things, but having perfect teeth is a must for both the wife and myself.

Sadly, my vanity gets the better of me quite often although I really work at not letting it run me. But teeth make such an important impression (no pun intended). I'm looking forward to seeing the results of all this. Jerry is supportive in all things. Pretty amazing.

  9. What beautiful detail in the pictures. I love any white orchids, and have had several. Alas, They bloom for a long time and when finished, I can never get them to bloom again. This post reminds on of going to Longwood Gardens for their orchid show. They have some real beauties in years past.

I'm glad I included those white orchids! We had lots of orchids when we lived in Santa Barbara but, like you, never had any luck getting them to bloom again except once or twice. We plan to try again here... if we can find another square inch of space for more plants!

  10. Lovin' your new photo display. Are you?

Orchids need this kind of hugeness to really appreciate them.

Happy for you and your teeth. Pain is highly over-rated, lies lies!

Thanks for noticing. I widened the format and decided to display the photos in a standard size (instead of making you click to enlarge). They're not as big in some cases as they were before, but they're big from the start and don't require you to do anything but scroll... and scroll... and scroll...

I'm hoping the Invisalign process won't be too uncomfortable, but am really excited to get started. First appointment next week!

  11. I guess I shouldn't mention that I fall asleep at the dentist - mind you could just be an aversion tactic. However with my hunky new dentist I try to stay awake so I can gaze into his eyes. And by the way you are worth every penny you are going to spend on your smile!

I do the same thing. I get so relaxed I have to be reminded to open my mouth. Our dentist is kind of (well more than kind of) adorable. The orthodontist is more than kind of adorable, too. But SHE is not my type. Thanks so much!

  12. Wow, wow, wow - that was orchismic. Loved this.
And of course you'll still be able to tease San Geraldo about going to the casino. You'll do it with an even more handsome and glowing smile.

I like "orchismic"! San Geraldo went to the casino yesterday... and won. I think the straightening of one tooth is covered... until he blows his winnings!

Thanks so much, that means everything coming from you. Much of my time spent taking these, I thought of you. Your photos are always so brilliant! I hoped what I produced would at least not make you cringe in aesthetic pain.
