IT'S CALLED HUMMINGBIRD Cake, but no hummingbirds were harmed in the making. The recipe originates in the Southeastern United States and contains bananas and pineapple, which I suppose connects it to those tropical birds. This one came out of Chef Robbie's kitchen. I told him he had to stop "forcing" us to eat his goodies every morning at coffee. These are some of the things I enjoyed before I told him. In the hummingbird cake, Chef Robbie replaced the usual walnuts with almonds simply because San Geraldo doesn't like walnuts. So we had to eat it. Chef Robbie is a corrupting influence.

  5. Are there no calories in desserts concocted by chefs in España? I swear, I'd be 350lbs if I ate everything you've posted over the last several years. I put on weight just look at the photos.

  7. Damn, Mitchell, you're killing me! I have a possibly fatal case of dessert envy. The only cure is for me get busy in the kitchen. Off I go . . . .

  15. Actually I am disappointed to discover there are no hummingbird ingredients.
We have lots of them flitting about the place; putting them into a cake or stew or pie sounds reasonable to try.
