Something Old, Old, Old, Old / Algo Viejo, Viejo, Viejo, Viejo

La versión español está después de la versión inglés.

WHEN WE BOUGHT our house in San Diego, we called My Mother The Dowager Duchess to tell her about it.

"Mim," said San Geraldo, "It's an old, old, old, old house."

"What year was it built?" she asked.

"1927!" he exclaimed.

He had the year wrong. It was built in 1924. However, 1927 was the year the Dowager Duchess was born.

"Oh," she commented. "So, I'm old, old, old, old, old."

Shhh! Don't tell San Geraldo, but he's now the same age the Dowager Duchess was when we bought the house.

WHEN WE BOUGHT IT.
CUANDO LO COMPRAMOS.
WHEN WE SOLD IT.
CUANDO LO VENDIMOS.

  1. What a beautiful home that was...can definitely see you are influenced by Spanish architecture. Maybe the seeds of moving to Spain happened long ago. Your Mother was a spunky lady :) I offer to tear hubby a new one when he calls me old (and he is 7.5 years older...and always will be)

It really was a wonderful house and although I don't regret what led us here, I do miss that house.

Our first house was a major fixer-upper. On this one, we were able to focus all our attention on the gardens.

Interior views come next. There was little to be done inside, so we were able to really enjoy ourselves outside.

  6. Love those after photos. That deck makes all the difference. Some things (and people!) get better with age.

The deck was so much fun to plan and it worked beautifully. The gardens were paradise.

My mother loved the spa. We worked our butts off to transform the gardens. And it was so worth it.

The photos aren't the best quality but they're a great record of the transformation. We loved that place.

Our first house was a nightmare money pit. In addition to redoing the gardens, we replaced almost everything in the house (including the roof). This house was in exceptional condition and we could spend our time, working our butts off, outside in the sunshine.

  10. How did you EVER part ways with this house....it is stunning!!!!! I 'd been depressed for a long time to come, and it doesn't really look old at all. I love that it has a guest house.

As I scan these photos, I do find myself really missing this house. No regrets and happy with where we are, but it was definitely my favorite.

The current owners take good care of things (although they don't trim things the way I would -- they like lollypop trees and bushes!) and it looks like a tropical paradise now. Everything has grown huge.
