THE KID BROTHER took the subway to the hotel the other day and we went to the New York Transit Museum, which is a few minutes away. I thought it would be an interesting museum for The Kid Brother and that I would just enjoy being with him. Well, we
both loved it. The museum is housed in an old subway station. It begins with photos, artefacts, and reproductions of the construction of the subway system, which began in 1903. As we made our way through the museum, we saw old trolley cars, buses, and then, after continuing down to the train platform, more than 100 years of original subway cars.

ENTRADA AL MUSEO. |

WHAT THE TRAINS LOOKED LIKE WHEN WE MOVED TO BROOKLYN IN 1964.
CÓMO SE VEÍAN LOS TRENES CUANDO NOS MUDAMOS A BROOKLYN EN 1964. |
Fascinating! Love this kind of thing.
ReplyDeleteJim:
DeleteThis museum was a huge surprise to me. What a great place.
I'm glad you are getting to spend some good time with your brother. Neat museum
ReplyDeleteCheapchick:
DeleteOur time together was wonderful. He's doing SO well.
I love that the museum is underground, too.
ReplyDeleteKirk:
DeleteAnd in actual original station. Exceptional.
That is pretty cool. My uncle loves trains, so he would enjoy this place. Looks like you guys had a good time.
ReplyDeletemistress maddie:
DeleteI love train travel but am no train freak. Still, this museum was a blast. My brother couldn't hide his enthusiasm... and he usually tries to.
Nice! There is a railroad museum in Old Sacramento that we like to visit periodically. Love the historicity of it all. The interiors take you back in time when things were more genteel and my ancestors were probably porters. Still, a fun place to visit :)
ReplyDeleteDeedles:
DeleteMy ancestors had only just arrived in the early 1900s and they probably all worked in the Garment District. My uncle drove a trolley (the Prospect Park line) beginning in the 1930s.
I do remember those ,💕, don’t know how long you’re here for,, but the tenament museum is also supposed to be amazing !!
ReplyDeleteSheree:
DeleteNext time the tenement museum. I've heard it IS amazing.
I like this kind of stuff too; it's history.
ReplyDelete5 cents to ride; I remember 25 cents during the 60s to ride the trolley into town with my grandmother. I think now it's $2.50.
and that directional sign - WTF????
anne marie:
DeleteI cracked up when I saw that sign. The laugh was lost on the Kid Brother. It's ALL Greek to him.
Fascinating! I like the old signs in particular.
ReplyDeleteDebra:
DeleteI love the signs too. I had opportunities over the years to get some of those ... for free! Apparently they're worth a chunk of change now!
I'd love that ... it's going on my list for our next trip to La Grand Apple.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite NYC museum is the Tenement Museum. That's an amazing spot.
Bob:
DeleteDefinitely worth visiting. And the Tenement Museum is on my last for MY next visit.
I always go to moma to see my favourite painting
ReplyDeleteJohn:
DeleteI haven't been to MOMA in SO long! What is your favorite painting? If you've told us, I don't remember (sorry)!
And those trains were probably built preWWII before they changed them
ReplyDeleteAdam:
DeleteThey have trains from very age there beginning with the opening of the subway system. They were used for decades. The first one I was on when we moved to Brooklyn in 1964 was built in the 1930s.
Cool museum! We spent th day getting into the city today, then enjoying the Met (for six hours), then getting back home to NJ. Looks like your day was fun, too :)
ReplyDeleteJudy:
DeleteLast time I was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art was around 1991! Maybe next year!
Love it!
ReplyDeleteWalt the Fourth:
DeleteGreat to find a museum we both really loved.
Thank you for taking us with you to this museum! :)
ReplyDeleteSnoskred:
DeleteMy pleasure. Sharing it with you makes it even more fun for me. I really appreciate your visits!
Looks like fun, and your brother will always assure you do things the right way. There is always right way (usually the opposite of what I do.)
ReplyDeleteTravel:
DeleteHe was so funny about those stairs... and dead serious. He really loved this place. So glad we went.
How wonderful - love museums like this. Looks like KB enjoyed himself!
ReplyDeleteWillym:
DeleteIt's rare for my brother to show so much enthusiasm. This place was a huge hit and probably worth another visit with him.
