We’re Makin' Canookie / Estamos Haciendo Canookie

WE'VE BEEN IN the City of New York for a little over 24 hours. Our flight arrived an hour early. Passport Control took less than 10 minutes. Our bags were waiting. The quickest, easiest arrival we've ever experienced at JFK. We stepped right into a waiting taxi. And we then spent about an hour and a half in New York traffic (with a wild driver). But our hotel is a pleasure. We had lunch at an excellent local burger place. San Geraldo began his siesta while I went and got US phone service for us both. I then joined his siesta after which we went to Rocco´s Tacos for dinner. Delicious, but way too high-energy for our jet-lagged selves.

Today I took the subway to the Brooklyn Museum, about a six-minute ride. The breathtakingly beautiful Brooklyn Botanic Gardens are behind the museum. After lunch at Mia´s Bakery, which is just down the street from the hotel, I had a canookie. Remember canookies (click here)? It´s a combination of a cannoli and a chocolate chip cookie.

The Kid Brother works Wednesdays, so we'll see him Thursday morning.

Today's photos were all taken with my phone because my camera sat safely on the dresser in the hotel room!

  6. Well, you lost me with the fish tacos, but you won me back with the canookie. That sounds vaguely naughty. Enjoy your visit.

  7. I don't believe I've ever had a canookie. Is that a New York city specialty?

    1. Kirk:
I had never even heard of a canookie until my first time at Mia's Bakery last year. I think it's their exclusive specialty.

  10. That sounds good for passport time especially in a high volume city like NYC. While I've flown domestic, the wait times were never the nightmare-ish hell I hear they are.

  11. I've only ever been in New York once, for an afternoon. The only place I went was the Brooklyn Museum, in order to see Judy Chicago's "Dinner Party," which is on permanent exhibit there.
