AS I EXITED the Brooklyn Bridge walkway (click here) and crossed Park Drive into Lower Manhattan, I heard some laughter and noticed a small crowd. A group of shirtless men (some eye candy) were setting up some kind of street performance and had an entertaining patter with the crowd. I stopped to watch. They were entertaining and they collected donations before the actual act. They asked for $20, knowing they'd get less. I gave them what they asked for. I was generous because the patter was good and the money had to be shared. I'm glad I helped them make a living. However, next time I'll wait until I see what I'm paying for.
Me detuve a mirar.
I always thought I was "scrawny guy"; I am now, apparently, "big guy."
Siempre pensé que yo era "tipo escaso"; Ahora soy, al parecer, "tipo grande".
The Big Finish
El Gran Final
Live and learn I guess.

DeleteAt least I wasn't the only generous sucker. I've been away from New York way too long.
Everyone watching must have had the same forlorn hope that it would gt better. I'd have been a sucker too.
ReplyDeleteRay:
DeleteI heard a number of people ask, "That's it?"
I'm sure they all had fun. If they'd do it again is a different matter entirely.
ReplyDeleteBlogoratti:
DeleteIt WAS fun and I'm glad I contrbuted. I would just be a bit more stingy next time.
Looks entertaining, but I doubt I'd have been as generous as you.
ReplyDeleteStephen:
DeleteBig Spender, that's me.
I'm taking away your "New York card." You will have to eat pizza with a knife and fork from now on.
ReplyDeleteKenosha:
DeleteCan you believe I did that?!? There's a sucker born every minute.
I don't know proper etiquette. Did you ask for a refund? Did you at least keep the receipt?
ReplyDeleteA Beer for the Shower:
DeleteCan you believe I didn't ask for a receipt. Tax deduction!
For the show, I think you were taken for a ride; but for the ey candy, you got lucky, Big Guy From Spain!
ReplyDeleteBob:
DeleteWhat the hell. At least they were working!
You never know what you might get there
ReplyDeleteAdam:
DeleteStreet performers normally work in spec. What a bunch of suckers we were.
Oh my. Nice of you, though, Big Guy ;)
ReplyDeleteJudy:
DeleteMaybe it was just the fact that he called me "Big Guy."
Our internet here had deteriorated and is SOOOO SLOW I can't watch the video...it will take 30 minutes to load...and even though it's not my $20, I'm afraid I wouldn't get your money's worth. We are looking into a different internet provider.
ReplyDeleteFrank:
DeleteYou didn't miss much in those videos. No one got my $20 worth! Good luck with the new internet provider. That can be so frustrating.
