Thirty-Five Cents / Treinta Y Cinco Centavos

WE'RE HEADED NEXT week to NYC to visit the Kid Brother. We'll then head on to Washington, D.C. for a stroll down Memory Lane (we lived there in the '80s) and to see some very special cousins. I found a couple of maps in my father's things. I wonder if they'll be of any use.

AMERICAN MAP CO. NOW HAS ONLY A COMPLETE FIVE-BOROUGH ATLAS... FOR $24.99.
UN NUEVE INLUYE TODOS LOS CINCO "BOROUGHS" DE LA CIUDAD... Y CUESTA $24.99.
LYNDON JOHNSON WAS PRESIDENT!*
¡LYNDON JOHNSON ERA EL PRESIDENTE!*

*Since then, the presidents have been:
Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and He Who Shall Not Be Named (who makes some of the awful ones look good by comparison).
*Desde entonces, los presidentes han sido:
Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and El Que No Debe Ser Nombrado (quien hace que algunos de los horribles se vean bien en comparación).

  1. I dare say that map is obsolete; I-95 & I-495 didn't exist in the DC area. when you go thru philly to get to DC, scream real loud so I can hear you!

I didn't realize the train passes through Philly! I WILL give a shout out! Would be so much fun to be able to do more than that!

probably a few protest marches going on when you guys are in D.C.
    Great looking vintage brochures/maps there.

We will try our best to stay a remove from the protests, although we are strong supporters of anything anti this administration. Wouldn't want to get arrested and not be able to return to home in Spain! Chuck is excited, as much as he lets show, and I've got a load of presents for him.

Ugh! They've been having a heatwave. I hope it's out of their system by the time we arrive. Not the best time of year to be in NYC or Washington DC. Jerry is already practicing his "Southern Stroll," which brings the pace nearly to a standstill.

This song is so great! I'd never heard it before and it got me on a two-hour loop of listening to all the other Slim Gaillard songs I knew and didn't know. I finished with "Spanish Melody" of course. I'll let you know when we're going to Nathan's Coney Island. Perhaps Thursday, the 12th. But Chuck is now hooked on "kill the clowns."

We left DC in '86. I haven't been back since around '94! Wrong time of year to visit, but what the hell. (And we love our cousins who live nearby.)

  7. Remember those golden days of yesteryear when only Nixon seemed like a threat to democracy?

Even scarier when I see Dubya and he doesn't seem so bad... until I think again about the damage he's done. And STILL he wasn't as bad as what we have now!
