"TO UNDERSTAND THIS, it helps to know that the word "flags" in Spanish is "banderas."
"But I wanted to go to the beach," I heard a little boy whine yesterday.
"Antonio, look at the flags," his mother scolded, "There are jellyfish."
"But I want to go..." he began.
"And, Antonio, do you also want to go to the hospital like last time?" she asked. "We're going to the pool."
"But..."
"The flags, Antonio! (Las banderas, Antonio!)
BANDERAS, ANTONIO, AS PICASSO, PABLO, BOTH NATIVES OF MÁLAGA. BANDERAS, ANTONIO, COMO PICASSO, PABLO, AMBOS NATIVOS DE MÁLAGA. |
"PERO YO QUERÍA ir a la playa", escuché a un niño pequeño quejarse ayer.
"Antonio, mira las banderas", le regañó su madre, "Hay medusas".
"Pero quiero ir ..." ´el comenzó.
"¿Y, Antonio, también quieres ir al hospital como la última vez?" ella preguntó. "Vamos a la piscina."
"Pero..."
¡Las banderas, Antonio!"
LAS BANDERAS [ANTONIO]. |

DeleteStick with me... [please].
"And, Antonio, do you also want to go to the hospital like last time?" is such a mom thing to say!
ReplyDeleteThe child should have said, "Maybe."
Hahaha!
Jennifer:
DeleteAnd his answer was "But..."!
But I wanna!
ReplyDeleteTravel:
DeleteThat's how I wanted to translate it.
Have you seen any movies with Antonio Flags?
ReplyDeleteAdam:
DeleteI've seen most of the Antonio Banderas movies but never any with Anthony Flags.
Ha! "And do you want to go to the hospital, like last time?"
ReplyDeleteI watched the whole 8 (or so)-part series on Picasso's life, with Mr. Flags here, and enjoyed it.
Judy:
DeleteI haven't seen the Picasso series but would love to.
Banderas means flags? You've taught me something today!
ReplyDeleteDebra:
DeleteSee? I'm just a font of knowledge, aren't I?!?
Typical kid banter. I mean a trip to the hospital is nothing compared tho swimming in the sea!
ReplyDeleteBob:
DeleteI don't know what I was thinking. I assumed that question would end the argument.... BUT!
Love how you always 'tie' things together......as my grandfather used to say,".....Jimmie, you have an alert mind."
ReplyDeleteGreat series 'Picasso' with Antonio as the older Pablo.
Jim:
DeleteI'm looking forward to watching the series. I was so excited when I heard the mother say "Antonio." There wouldn't have been much of a story otherwise.
But but but I want to go ~
ReplyDeleteThanks for the refresh of Picasso ~ we are trying to figure out who will be the next genius that will capture our attention. Any ideas|?!
Ron:
DeleteThe next genius? You!
Spanish is so much prettier than English! Antonio Banderas, yum! Tony Flags sounds like one of The Sopranos. I've never seen the show, but I've enjoyed parodies of it. That water looks much too inviting to have jellyfish mines!
ReplyDeleteDeedles:
DeleteYeah. Tony Flags never would have had the success Antonio Banderas has had. It's all about the name. The Sopranos was one of the best series I've seen. And Tony Flags is a great character name.
Cute story. Nice Banderas images.
ReplyDeleteWilma:
DeleteLucky the kid's name was Antonio. The story wouldn't have been the same.
