I'VE BEEN HAVING one of those days... this week. Three days in a row actually. I forced myself to go to the gym today after coffee and that was great. San Geraldo and I had a pleasant lunch at home. But I've crashed once again. Maybe a siesta will help.
But first a bit of fresh seafood for you all to enjoy. Except for the first photo, this is about fresh cuttlefish — on the menu at all the chiringuitos (beach bars).
And that's all I'll write today because, as British naturalist John Ray (1627–1705) said:
"He that uses many words for explaining any subject, doth, like the cuttlefish, hide himself for the most part in his own ink."
Thanks for being out there.
NOT A CUTTLEFISH... A MONKFISH (UGLY AND DELICIOUS). NO SEPIA... RAPE (FEO Y DELICIOSO). |
CUTTLEFISH BONE WE FOUND ON THE BEACH LAST YEAR. HUESO DE CHIPIRONES QUE ENCONTRAMOS EL AÑO PASADO EN LA PLAYA. |
THE SIDE BIRDS LOVE TO CHEW. EL LADO QUE A LOS PÁJAORS LES ENCANTA MASTICAR. |
Ugly or not it is still fish! Unless it comes in the form of fishsticks or canned albacore (regular tuna in a pinch) it is all gross! I know, that's just my personal tastes and I shouldn't foist my opinions on anyone else. Oh well, too late now :) Who in the world discovered that these things are edible?!
ReplyDeleteAccording to John Ray, I probably should change my nickname from Deedles to Cuttlefish.
Deedles:
DeleteI hated fish when I was a kid. Now I love it... as long as the heads are removed and there are no eyes looking back at me... and as long as I don't have to deal with bones, although sometimes I can even manage that now. I can't stand fishsticks; and Jerry ate them frozen right out of the freezer when he was a kid!
It does look ugly, Trumpfish?
ReplyDeleteI would think that a Trumpfish would look more like Orange Roughy. Still ugly, though.
DeleteAdam and Deedles:
DeleteAnd now I will never again eat orange roughy!
Did that cuttlefish bone come from a kraken? It is huge! Hope you get your mojo back quickly.
ReplyDeleteWilma:
DeleteI have moments of mojo; thanks! Isn't that cuttlefish bone amazing? We couldn't believe the size, which is why we brought it home. There were lots of them washed ashore that day.
@deedles - orange roughy = dumpfish; bwhahahahahahaha!
ReplyDeletelooks like some octopus for calamari there, mitchell. take some down time and call us in the morning.
anne marie:
DeleteAnd orange roughy is now off my favorite fish list! Cuttlefish, octopus, and calamari (squid) are all related (so is the nautilus).
I hope you feel better soon. Good idea going to the gym, exercise may surely help. Un abrazo.
ReplyDeletePetie:
DeleteOh, give me a moment and my mood will change... and then change back again. Hanging in!
Cuttle bones were what I gave to my budgie, Perry, when I was a kid. Guess they are filled with nutrients?
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great how a good workout will release those good endorphins to 'make it all better' for a while.
Have a good night.
Jim:
DeleteI always remember buying cuttlebone for our canaries, too. And I never at the time had any idea what it came from. (I thought it was some kind of chalk!)
Come to think of it, me too.
DeleteTis an ugly fish. How does it taste?
ReplyDeleteAnd .... @Deedles
Fish sticks? Really?
Yep, fishsticks, with a mixture of ketchup and miracle whip as a dip. I'm a connysewer!
DeleteBob and Deedles:
DeleteMonkfish is absolutely delicious. One of my favorite fish. Light and meaty -- and skinned, cleaned, and cut up before it ends up on my plate!!! The fish sticks just got worse. Miracle Whip?!? That was never even allowed in our house!!!
Nope......no way I'm I eating that hideous thing...….
ReplyDeleteI think I uttered those exact same words on my honeymoon! I was young.
Deletemistress maddie and deedles:
DeleteDeedles was such an innocent (if you can believe her)... Trust me, the monkfish is incredibly delicious. I have never seen it served whole and have only had it cut up in chunks. The best!
I spy razor clams in the first photo. I've always wanted to try those.
ReplyDeleteWalt the Fourth:
DeleteI've never tried them either. Should give them a try since I can get them right across the street.
Some days we have to just keep going. I will keep a good thought for you - and all the cuttlefish in the sea. I once saw one when snorkelling and nearly drowned with delight, trying to follow it around. It was SO cute! ;)
ReplyDeleteSnoskred:
DeleteI had no idea what cuttlefish actually was or looked like until moving here. They are beautiful when they're swimming. Yep, some days we just muddle along and then some good days come along again. I'm doing OK. Thanks for your understanding.
The fish with the lemon in it's mouth, reminds me of someone I have known since high school.
ReplyDeleteTravel:
DeleteCharming. A good friend? I hope it's no one you dated!
I did!
ReplyDeleteTravel: Ouch! I’ll bet you’re glad that’s over!
