Down In The Dumpsters / Contenedores De Basura

La versión español está después de la versión inglés.

WHAT DO YOU think of our very discreet dumpsters? The truck below is picking up the glass for recycling. And the truck driver does it all himself with one remote control. There are dumpsters for paper and cardboard, plastic and aluminum, and organic trash. All our old above-ground dumpsters have been replaced with these. Not realizing what was u nderground, the first time I saw one in Seville, I wondered how often they had to empty those puny little things.

  1. somehow I don't quite think you were watching the recycling taking place...I think your eyes were on the "interesting assets"...

I reviewed the pix to see what you were talking about. I promise you, I was watching the recycling. No offense to the operator, but ... does nothing for me.

It's such an improvement over the big plastic dumpsters lining the street.

It's entertaining to watch people approach them for the first time.

  4. Cool idea, but what does it say about me that I also think it'd be a good place to dump a body???

  6. Genius! Europe is so far ahead of North America (certainly Nova Scotia) in so many things!! We could use a few of those along our boardwalk for sure!!

They are so much more pleasant to look at... and to use.

  7. I was remarking on the amount of garbage thrown on the ground in the beach parking lot today to Jim. If only people had more respect for others.

The first time I saw it was on one narrow street in Sevilla. It's becoming the norm here in Fuengirola. This year they replaced all the old dumpsters along the Paseo (about 7km long).

  9. Out little village has those, too, in the center of town. They're much neater than the above ground variety we find everywhere else. There are three: glass, paper, and food containers (cardboard, plastic, and cans). Of course, now I have this in my head: "Down in the dumpsters... down in the dumpsters, people put me down 'cause that's the side of town I was born in." Ok, so I changed the lyric.

    1. Um, that would be "our" little village. Unfortunately, we can't refer to the inhabitants as the Village People.

I remember you sharing photos of your plaza's renovation with the in-pavement power outlets. Very impressive. (And, no surprise, I was singing Down in the Boondocks while I wrote this post.)

Such a tremendous improvement. Some of the cafes used to have a view of 6 to 8 above-ground dumpsters.

  11. Impressive, if only Rome did that too.

So many cities could benefit from this. Then again, in some places just cleaning up the trash would help, too!

Such an aesthetic solution to an ugly situation.
