Okay, Okay / Vale, Vale

THE KID BROTHER has been hard to reach the few weeks since we've been back from the States. I think he's simply establishing his independence after our visit. We have our regular FaceTime call at 11 in the morning on Sundays. He initiates the FaceTime call.

The first week, I had to phone him; no FaceTime. He had dozed off, he said. The second week, his roommate answered and said he had just stepped out. This week, he had "just stepped out" again. I called him several hours later. It's hard to tell from the following transcript, but he was happy and pleasant.
"Hello?"
Hi Chuck. I missed you yesterday so I thought I'd see if I could catch you now.
"I know. I know... I'm watching the game [baseball]!"
OK, I won't keep you. We'll talk fast. So how was softball today?
"It rained yesterday."
So, was it too wet to play today?
"It rained like hell Saturday!"
So you didn't even go today?
"Next week. Next week."
OK. I don't want to keep you from the game. So, don't forget me next weekend, wise guy. Saturday at 11 on FaceTime.
"OK. OK."
Bye, Chuck.
"Bye, Norton!"
Bye, Ralph!
Maybe I should write him a letter.

IN JULY. THE KID BROTHER TAKES A PHOTO ON HIS MOBILE OF A PHOTO ON MY MOBILE. I LOVE HIM!

OK, no te retendré.
"¡Vale, Vale!"
Adiós, Chuck.
"¡Adiós, Norton!"
Adiós, Ralph!
Tal vez debería escribirle una carta.

Chucky loves all the old comedy teams and requires me to do routines with him (mostly for him) whenever we talk or see each other.

In ever comedy team, i tend to be the completely goofy one while Chuck tends to be the bossy one who thinks he knows what he's doing. So, I'm Ed Norton. I'm also Lou Costello, Chico and Harpo Marx (but sometimes Groucho), Stan Laurel... oh, and Larry, Curly AND Shemp!

  9. I do like your brother....A LOT!
Oh, if we were all able to be so honest and 'to the point' in our social encounters!
This is why I LOVED my early teaching assignments working with the 'Chucks' of the world.
    I miss it.

Well, he is sometimes brutally honest and only very rarely to the point. I'm really good at interpreting my brother's behaviors... non-responses. And I'm skilled at talking to myself!

  10. I happen to be re-acquainted after 10 years with my Chuck last week. Jim and I headed to the city to get our hair cut. The barber had been closed for Summer Vacay so we were in desperate need of a buzz. As I stepped inside to greet the super busy place a hand shoots out in front of me ~ Hi Ron! I looked at the face directing me over to the chair beside him was Sammy, my Chuck. 30 minutes later Sammy and I had caught up on life at my/our last job at the university. We both were signaled up to the barber chairs, side by side ~ I remember that as I spoke Sammy would repeat my last word in the sentence. Nothing has changed, and I am happy!

How wonderful! It makes you feel so loved and appreciated. It reminds us that any small encounter could be making a major difference in someone's life.
