Sleep With Me / Duerme Conmigo

THIS WAS GOING to be about a funny, fractured American idiom. Pedro's English is exceptional but he's lately been studying from a book of English-language idioms to make it sound more natural. He loves any opportunity (loves to find, search, stretch for any opportunity) to use them.

Last night at dinner at Primavera Restaurant he told Kathleen she shouldn't "wash their dirty clothes in public." San Geraldo and I both laughed and clarified that the expression was "air your dirty laundry/linen."

Well, after doing just a little research, it turns out Pedro was right, too. I had no idea.

Anyway, this isn't about that.

When we left the restaurant and said good-night, San Geraldo gave Kathleen one of his super hugs. Nobody does it better. I swear. His hugs are that good. Mid-hug, Kathleen moaned and asked San Geraldo, "Will you sleep with me?"

PEDRO: "DON'T WASH MY DIRTY CLOTHES IN PUBLIC."
PEDRO: "NO LAVA MIS ROPAS SUCIAS EN PUBLICO."
AFTER THE QUESTION, A CAUTIOUS (NOT REALLY) LOOK IN PEDRO'S DIRECTION.
DESPUÉS DE LA PREGUNTA, UNA MIRADA CAUTELOSA (NO REALMENTE) EN DIRECCIÓN DE PEDRO.
OH, AND SG'S ANSWER IS MOST DEFINITELY "NO."
OH, Y LA RESPUESTA DE SG ES DEFINITAVEMENTE "NO".
I'LL JUST STICK WITH MY MASCARPONE AND ORANGE CHEESECAKE (AND HOMEMADE STRACCIATELLA ICE CREAM).
ME QUEDARÉ CON MI TARTA DE QUESO MASCARPONE Y NARANJA (CON HELADO CASERO DE STRACCIATELLA).

  1. Wow! He gives good hugs, he has a gorgeous smile and, if he cuddles too, you've hit the trifecta, Mitchell! Lucky you.

Yep. It's the trifecta. Although, because of my eye there's no cuddling right now! Even my mother liked a hug when it came from Jerry!

For what? Not stabbing me with the knife or letting Jerry sleep with Kathleen.

Even my mother, who was not a hugger at all, loved Jerry's hugs.

  10. English, it is a simple and strange language. My grandmother once remarked, "it is not the sleeping I am worried about!"
