Scaredy Cat? / ¿Miedoso?

OUR FRIEND PEDRO made a toy for our cats (for my birthday). He was convinced it would intrigue and entertain them for hours. It's made of cardboard, toilet paper tubes, and a bit of yarn. I gave it to them Sunday morning. Dudo was curious. Moose watched Dudo. It hasn't been touched since.

Moose miró a Dudo. No ha sido tocado desde entonces.

DUDO: "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?"
DUDO: "¿QUÉ DIABLOS ES ESO?"
"COOL! IT'S GOT MY NAME ON IT."
"¡QUE GUAY! TIENE MI NOMBRE EN EL."
"YARN."
"HILO."
"I LOVE YARN... WHAT THE?!?"
"ME ENCANTA HILO... ¿¡¿QUE?!?"
"IT"S AFTER ME!!!"
"¡ME ESTÁ PERSIGUIENDO!"
MOOSE: "WHAT JUST HAPPENED?"
MOOSE: "¿QUÉ PASÓ?"
"WHAT? I'M JUST ADMIRING THE VIEW."
"¿QUÉ? SOLO ADMIRO LA VISTA."
DUDO WOULD LIKE WHAT PEDRO MADE FOR LUKE.
A DUDO LE GUSTARÍA LO QUE PEDRO HIZO PARA LUKE.

  1. All that work to no avail!! Moose knew all along guessing by his 'look'.

If Pedro just hadn't taped the yarn to the rest of it, all would have been fine.

  2. Cats, so predictably unpredictable. You gotta love 'em! Now, my maltese, Cujo, would love the toilet paper rolls! They'd be chewed up and strewn around the house in no time. I'm looking forward to the continuing adventures of Dudo & Moose.

The boys would have loved the TP rolls. Moose loves destroying paper and cardboard. Dudo would have been very happy very happy had the assemblage not chased him when he pulled the yarn.

Our niece Lindy brought the boys catnip-stuff bags one year. They went nuts. Pedro is amazingly talented. You name it, he's good at. (I'd hate him if he weren't so lovable.)

Such a shame. I tried it again today but Moose has no interest and Dudo won't get within two feet of it.

  5. put a little bird in one of the tubs and maybe they will think it is like the drain that so fascinates them. Or use it as a cat repellent when you need some alone time. I am quite taken with the zebra and crocodile, myself.

Tried that with stuffed mice, feathered toys. Moose looks but says, "Oh why bother." Dudo says, "You think I'm stupid?!?"

  6. Homemade toys are best - my Mom's cat is in love with balls of tin foil. Love those paper roll animals Pedro made

We had a cat whose favorite toys were rolled up balls of paper. She would go nuts with them and then shove them under a closet door. Moose also loves paper but he shreds it and creates a huge mess. Dudo is still following me around the house with the drawstring I gave him a couple of weeks ago.

  7. I'm pretty sure Moose is always thinking Dudo is a sucker for everything, and a plum short of a fruit bowl.

  8. Cats always want things that's not theirs

  9. They like some things for a second, but the things they can't have they love forever ...or until they destroy them!

Moose and paper... and photographs... the little shit. Dudo and his drawstring. (And any bag or box that comes into the house.)

  10. Cats are mercurial and capricious, but it is in their job description.

They refused to sign off their job descriptions. Too restrictive.

  11. Looks like it would hold exactly 8 mice.

But I blew it by leaving the yarn attached. Dudo will now not go near it. And the construction is too complex I think for Moose!

  12. Do you ever wish you had a perch like that, someplace you could just watch it all happen?

I DO. Dead center in prime location with a view of the front door, the living room, the terrace, and the beach. And the first thing anyone sees when they walk in the door! This house has definitely gone to the cats.

Pedro is simply a wizard. Portraits, piano, athletics. Sweet, intelligent, kind, funny. He can really get on one's nerves!

Well, they're covering really well. Moose doesn't even seem to be aware of the thing now. And Dudo acts like he's walking by a cemetery. No eye contact. Really fast. And i think he holds his breath. Nope, the toy is not a winner. Such a shame. I mean, it's personally engraved!
