Louis Boston: The End Of An Era / El Fin De Una Era

La versión español está después de la primera foto de San Geraldo.

WHEN I MET San Geraldo in 1981 he shopped at a place called Louis (pronounced Louie's) Boston. San Geraldo sat in an arm chair enjoying wine and grapes while his personal sales person brought clothes to him for inspection. Louis' catalogs did not include prices. If you had to ask the price, you couldn't afford it.

San Geraldo hadn't shopped at Louis for a very long time before it finally closed in 2015 after 86 years in business. His style, and budget, had changed. Maybe they couldn't make it without him.

The photos? There were flies this morning at the chiringuito (beach bar). Oh, and he didn't get that "hat" at Louis. This must be love.

  1. Is that an IKEA “hat”? I think I recognize it.

    1. Judy,
Well, you clearly know your high-end designers. Yes, it’s IKEA. We proununce it Eee-KAY-ah. I bought Jerry more than a dozen of those hats... without even asking the price (I didn’t have to; the four-packs were clearly marked € 2,50.)

    4. Walt the Fourth,
I figured. Although I thought it might be like Spanish. To Spanish speakers English words for example that begin with a “w” are pronounced as if they begin with “gw,” i.e., witch is pronounced gwitch. Maybe French changes “I” to “t” in Swedish names.

    1. Ron,
Jerry was partying one night and bought a reversible sheepskin and canvas overcoat... before I met him. It was stunning. Really warm Weighed a ton. It was on sale I think because it wouldn’t fit anyone but Jerry with his long arms... the sleeves were even too long for him!

Purely by accident. the IKEA dish towels only came in two colors. But this one even matched the chiringuito chairs and base tablecloths!

He can carry off a really bold, brash shirt. But he can’t leave the house in mismatched plaid shorts!

  8. I remember Louie's very well. One of the best and finest haberdasher's men's shop around. Elegant, renowned service, and quality goods. Filled with earthly delights. The days of those kinds of shop are gone sadly. It's getting hard to find a good place to shop anymore. but if they were still around, I bet they'd have a new trend and sell lovley head cloths for San Geraldo.
