YESTERDAY'S LOCAL WEATHER forecast called for sunny with scattered clouds. No rain until 6 in the evening, and then not much. So, at 1 in the afternoon, I went for an hour-long walk west in the direction of some very dark and threatening clouds.
I knew the sun was up there somewhere because the world hadn't come to an end.
As far as "scattered" clouds were concerned, all I saw were clouds "scattered" among other clouds. And then there was thunder in the distance, so I turned back toward home. I got rained on but not soaked (like the day before). It then rained steadily although eltiempo.es still said no rain until 6:00 in the evening. To their credit, they did finally show clouds between 1 and 2 (but they didn't show them until between 1 and 2).
Today, we're supposed to get 81mm (3 inches) of rain, and there are severe flood warnings for some areas of Málaga. I do believe it this time but, for the moment at least, the sun is shining.

EL PRONÓSTICO METEOROLÓGICO local de ayer requería soleada con nubes dispersas. No llueve hasta las 6 de la tarde, y luego no mucho. Entonces, a la 1 de la tarde, fui a dar una caminata de una hora hacia el oeste en dirección a algunas nubes muy oscuras y amenazadoras.
Sabía que el sol estaba allí en alguna parte porque el mundo no había llegado a su fin.
En cuanto a las nubes "dispersas", todo lo que vi fueron nubes "dispersas" entre otras nubes. Y luego hubo truenos en la distancia, así que me volví hacia mi casa. Me llovió pero no me empapé (como el día antes). Luego llovió de manera constante, aunque eltiempo.es seguía diciendo que no llovía hasta las 6 de la tarde. Para su crédito, finalmente mostraron nubes entre la 1 y las 2 (pero no las mostraron hasta entre la 1 y las 2).
Hoy, se supone que tenemos 81 mm de lluvia, y hay advertencias de inundaciones severas para algunas áreas de Málaga. Esta vez lo creo, pero al menos por el momento, el sol está brillando.

Back in the early 1970's, in the peak of my fathers flying days, I can remember visiting National Weather Service stations, there was one every 50 miles or so, with people who actually went outside I looked at the sky. Now it is all done by a comparative handful people looking at radar and computer screens. Scattered clouds . . .

Thank you Mitchell. I was doing okay until Balder Half decided to affectionately sneak up behind me. He accidentally hit me in my bare eyeball. The soreness is going to take a little longer than normal to wear off (not to mention the redness) but there's no need for pills. That man really needs to come at me from the front!

I used to get caught in the rain while walking all the time because I took the weather report at it's word. Now, if there's more clouds than blue skies, I do my walking in the mall.

We have had scattered showers all day today, We were lucky (and ready for) that we didn't get caught in any of them. Weather forecasts are tricky at best! Just be prepared for anything I guess.
