Happy Pointy Things / Cosas Puntiagudas Felices

La versión español está después de la primera foto.

OUR PLANTS ON the terrace are thriving and grew like, um, weeds(?) through the summer. They are mostly now cacti and succulents. They can be, as I've mentioned before, somewhat dangerous around people like me. But their beauty makes them worth the risk. Besides, I haven't poked an eye out.

Además, no he echado un ojo fuera.

WHILE DUDO SLEEPS, I KEEP MY DISTANCE FROM THE CROWN OF THORNS LINING THE WEST WALL.
MIENTRAS DUDO DUERME, ME MENTANGO ALEJADO DE LA CORONA DE ESPINAS QUE RODEA EL MURO OESTE.
THIS IS HOW THIS CACTUS BLOOMS.
ASÍ ES COMO FLORECER ESTE CACTUS.

  4. It looks so lovely out there! Do you actually spend time at the table?
I just scrolled back to older posts, thinking that I must have missed one about a plant attacking you... sure enough! Arm wound!

We spend almost no time at the table. What a waste.

    1. Cheapchick,
It’s all for the cats. Cactus is a good back scratcher... apparently.

  7. The platter on the wall nicely accents the gorgeous cactus with its deep burgundy leaves. Terrific ambiance on your terrace.

  10. I used to have a plant like yours but no red leaves only green ones. It was called the African Milk Bush and it was a succulent. If you broke off part of the plant it dripped a white sap.
    Your plants is very beautiful.

    1. Parsnip,
We had a green versión years ago I’ll have to look it up. This too has that milky white sap.. and it can burn if left on the skin. It doesn’t tend to bother Jerry. It did tend to bother me.

  11. Beautiful! How will you prune the cacti down when the start to touch the ceiling? Can they just be cut without harming them?

    1. Walt the Fourth,
Well have to do a brutal horizontal cut low enough to be hidden from view. But that will probably cause multi-branching growth. And clearly the cut will be needed this year.

When ROn prunes ours he puts the pruned part in cactus soil and PRESTO! They will grow as well!
